“If I was Barbados Prime Minister for one day, I’d direct all teachers and children in mainstream schools be taught to sign. As those hearing children grow up, they’d be able to sign to us deaf people – in the streets, shops, businesses - it would be a win-win for everyone!”

“Here I demonstrate the sign for ‘rights’," says Maude, "because too many Bajan deaf people are denied their human right to a good education and a career. The deaf community is stuck where it was 50 years ago! Barbados has moved forwards but has not carried deaf people with it.”
