You know who also learned valuable skills? Free people. And unlike the enslaved, those free people could keep the $ from those skills, they could buy property with those skills instead of be property, they could support their families instead of have their children sold from them

"Frederick Douglass believed that education was the key to empowering Black people and helping them achieve true freedom and equality. In 2023, #literacy in America is still important for many of the same reasons." -@_DiaBryant https://t.co/fJReMnmzfL #NYEarlyLiteracy

New York leaders can better ensure historically underserved groups of students have access to #AdvancedCoursework. All students deserve opportunities that will prepare them for the future. Join me in advocating for #CourseAccessForAll by sharing these insights.

NEW: Not much has changed since the '19-20 school yr. Students of color & those from low-income backgrounds are still disproportionately excluded from #AdvancedCoursework in NY—courses that can support their #postsecondary success. https://t.co/lTd0BnQ2vR #NYEquityCoalition (1/6)

Joy is a precursor for learning. Some adults in schools don't know what joy is or never experienced joy in relation to learning. You gotta find the joy within yourself before you can activate it in others.

The concern with this action is twofold: 1) these tools have historically been leveraged within communities that utilize accumulated resources; & 2) cultural ideas like “work hard” suggest the fault lies with child and absolves the system. Let’s do better!

September 29, 1998 was Rap’s most legendary release date and it’s not up for debate 🙌🏾 From JAY-Z’s ‘Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life’ to OutKast’s ‘Aquemini’, a battle of the titans ensued and delivered now classic albums. Take a trip down memory lane. https://t.co/UiImGAMJBF
