The key benefits of embedding an interaction as a smart contract module are provenance and immutability. Both the creator and executor can explicitly agree to the terms of execution, and these terms can be verified by anyone.

Verifying that a project uses IPFS for content storage is also not good enough. An IPFS hash is useless unless someone is hosting the content. Content on IPFS is only permanent if you run a node to host the content yourself or continually fund a pinning service.
