So Jordan Peterson fans are pissing themselves because they’ve just now learned that regulated professions have standards of conduct, and ongoing education requirements, and that if you don’t meet those standards, you can be disciplined? Is that right?
In case you still thought this was about conservation, last night non-Native fishers broke into a lobster pound, poured paint thinner in the water to kill the lobsters, assaulted the Mi’kmaw fishers, and set fire to a woman’s van.
Your regular reminder that the Queen of England claims ownership of millions of square kilometers of land she has never seen, touched, or even thought about.
But Indigenous peoples are required to prove their ownership of lands they have used and occupied for millenia.
This would be over pretty quick if the Government of Canada and Nova Scotia made clear they will take steps to identify those individuals responsible for the violence, charge them, and revoke their fishing licenses if they are convicted.

When he’s saying things that call into question his competence and his psychological state, that is absolutely relevant to whether he can practice psychology.
Any Canadians inclined to get on their high horse about gun violence in the US, remember: a significant portion of our population thinks shooting someone is a reasonable response if their friend climbs on your ATV.
I don’t know how anyone can look at this picture and not feel deeply ashamed and angry about how our city and province are handling the housing crisis.
Things that are actual international embarrassments for Canada:
1) residential schools and the people that continue to make light of them;
2) the convoy/occupation in Ottawa;
3) our mining industry and its human rights record
…
The Venn diagram of people who get upset when Sir John A's name gets taken off of something, and the people who think that FIrst Nations should "forget about the past" has a LARGE area of overlap.

about a listener suggestion he raise taxes on the “super-wealthy” such as the Irvings, Premier Higgs says the tax agreements with First Nations were creating “super-wealthy” reserves to the detriment of non-Indigenous New Brunswickers.
Nova Scotia has experienced three extreme weather events in 10 months. Asking the Premier to acknowledge climate change isn’t a “political gotcha”. It’s a political and scientific reality.
Looking for info from the news conference withNS officials re:flooding. 1st 2 questions (CTV) were wasted on political “gotcha” questions. Seriously - there are 4 missing Nova Scotians and the 2nd q was used to scold the Premier for not mentioning climate change. Do better CTV.
Someone commented on this photo in an article asking whether it was an actual city or just someone dicking around in photoshop, and I’m still laughing.
Apparently there are so few cyclists in this city that we aren’t worth building infrastructure for, and yet so many cyclists that we are a constant, never ending danger to drivers.
These men are deliberately pushing our public health system to the brink of collapse so they can justify selling it to their friends for pennies on the dollar.
The premiers of Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I. will meet in Moncton today for a summit to discuss Canada's struggling health-care system.
The NDP sent a bad tweet.
Also, the Liberals voted against universal pharmacare.
Maybe we should be more concerned with real world policy than social media policy.
A grown man shot a young man in the head at Point blank range with a restricted firearm, then claimed his gun went off “accidentally”, and was acquitted.
You are lecturing the wrong people about “personal responsibility”.
I know there may be some strong reactions regarding verdict of Gerald Stanley trial.
Let us all remember personal responsibility for thoughts, actions & comments – incl on social media - & that SK is always strongest when all our communities work together
Four fully vaccinated Premiers can’t find a safe way to meet, but still think it’s fine to have dozens of kids crammed into classrooms with poor ventilation, no vaccines, and no social distancing.
Mary and Joseph lost their health care and can’t afford a baby. The wise men were stopped by the Travel ban. The angels stand accused of spreading “fake news”.
And Herod is richer than ever thanks to your tax cut.
Merry Christmas, you hypocrite.
At the end of each year, no matter how short—or long—it may feel, there is always Christmas. Waiting for us is that sense of wonder the shepherds felt when the angels appeared in the night sky to herald the birth of a Savior.
Bear in mind that when you say the government “just needs to get people to the table”, you are asking the Mi’kmaq to sit with people who deny their rights, and who have spent decades using violence to prevent them from exercising them.
Imagine spending 8 years on council, announcing your mayoral bid a year in advance, chasing headlines with controversial positions, and barely beating out a guy from TikTok who threw his hat in the ring at the last minute.
Canada isn’t so much a country, as it is a resource extraction company, a bank, and a real estate investment trust stacked on top of each other in a trench coat.
Worth keeping this in mind. We are now in a nationwide rail shutdown because one pipeline company wasn’t willing to consider an alternate route that would do less damage.
That's right: the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs gave *an alternate route* to Coastal GasLink. One they were okay with because it avoided ecologically pristine and culturally important areas.
And Coastal GasLink refused.
DO NOT let this info get lost in misleading rhetoric.
I witnessed this as well. This woman was assaulted by a protestor, and had more than one vehicle attempt to drive into her. We informed the police of this. They arrested her and let the woman who assaulted her walk away.
Literally: as the lone protester who just faced down a mob of enormous vehicles was bundled into a police car, she shouted to onlookers, "get vaccinated, it saves lives".
That happened today in our city, right in front of me.

Just a reminder that in addition to refusing to release records from residential schools or issue an apology, the Catholic Church also failed to pay their share of the residential school settlement.
My fellow settlers, I want to gently suggest this is not the time for us to be weighing in on the Buffy St. Marie story.
Allow the people who are directly affected time to process this. Sit back and listen to what they have to say.
"Two trawls, which are strings of traps, that had been "soaking" for 13 days contained 128 dead lobsters, 53 weak and bitten lobsters, 60 claws and 18 groundfish."
Arguing that “ordinary Canadians” can’t afford to shop at local shops that pay their staff properly, and so we should shop at chains that don’t pay ordinary Canadians properly is one hell of an argument.
It’s funny, I knew a Peter MacKay that was part of a Conservative government for almost 10 years that did a lot to strengthen our relationship with/increase our dependence on China.
The Communist Chinese government is continuing their coronavirus coverup and Justin Trudeau is sourcing "Canadian" supply lines... from China. We need made in Canada solutions.
Another reminder that as the RCMP talk about “de-escalation” and “both sides”, that this was their response to Indigenous protests in Elsipogtog 7 years ago.
If there are future historians to write about it, the fact people frequently chose loud, obnoxious, proudly ignorant men over intelligent, capable, experienced women for positions of leadership will probably be a pretty big factor in the decline of humankind.
How many good journalists have lost their jobs, and Postmedia is paying Rex Murphy for front page stories about how he can’t fucking cook? Who reads this drivel?
Should young women be forced to wear a bra in school? Quebec minister Helene David says it's an “extremely interesting” question — and called students who recently led a bra-less protests "leaders with strong personalities".
If you’re a politician whose previous job was hiding rich people’s money in Bermuda, maybe you shouldn’t be talking about which jobs are “real” and which ones aren’t.
Almost every downtown in the Maritimes was designed for people on foot and people on horseback.
If you’re driving downtown and complaining about pedestrians getting “in your way”? It’s your car that the space isn’t designed for.
Thousands of pounds of live lobster, stolen from the pound by non-Native fishermen, and then dumped in front of DFO offices to die and rot.
Showing the world how much they care about conservation.
This shouldn’t need to be said, but:
Nazis believe that the Aryan race is superior to other races.
Being civil to them is not going to make them respect you as a human being.
Calls are increasing across the Maritimes for governments to tackle labour shortages in the health-care sector, as hospitals are being forced to close emergency rooms now that weary staff are taking summer vacations to recover from pandemic-related stress.
In addition to the destruction of property, this lost gear will remain at the bottom and continue to catch lobsters and other species, doing damage to the marine environment.
Anyone doing this doesn’t give a lick about conservation.
UPDATED: The chief of the Sipekne’katik First Nation estimates anywhere between 150 and 200 lobster traps were lost on Friday as non-Indigenous commercial fishers cut lines and destroyed buoys.

Not even convinced there should be a title game for 8 year olds. Lots of evidence that winner-take-all competition does more harm than good at that age. Programs should be skills focused.
My wife went to the kids’ school yesterday to teach 3 classes about Mi’kmaw quillwork. The kids came home beaming with pride about their culture. It’s a beautiful thing.
I really like beer, but to suggest that government providing cheap beer is anything like government providing necessities like health care, childcare, and education is a ridiculous comparison.
It's amusing that the same people screaming that Ford's "buck a beer" promise is a cheap attempt to buy votes, also think "free" daycare, dental care, pharmacare and tuition by his political opponents aren't the same thing. And, unlike Ford's proposal, they're not cheap.

Nice to sit out on my deck and listen to the sounds of nature. Birds chirping. Peepers peeping. Men with fragile egos driving unnecessarily loud motorbikes up and down residential streets.
If Albertans wanted other Canadians to take their concerns more seriously, electing a corrupt conspiracy theorist as Premier was probably not the way to do it.
FTR, if people are asked to take basic, reasonable steps to prevent the spread of a highly infectious, deadly disease, and a minority of people say "No, fuck you, I can do what I want", it's that group that is being divisive, not the other way around.
If you care more about a statue than you do about the damage Macdonald did to Indigenous communities, languages, and cultures that had survived thousands of years, then it’s not really historical erasure you are worried about.
So if I understand the candidate vetting process for Nova Scotia politicians, DUI's and threatening to kill people with your truck are cool, but boudoir photos are not?

Congratulations: you’re now defending an industry culture where sexual violence against children is so normalized, people don’t even think it’s particularly obscene.
“Whether we like it or not, they’re allowed to go out and fish” - RCMP officer to non-Indigenous fisher. From video taken yesterday by Denise Marie/Facebook
Imagine being one of those non-native fishermen and thinking you are accomplishing anything other than convincing a lot of people to never buy your lobster again.
Imagine a country which, in it's 154 year history, has never had a single head of state that speaks any Indigenous language.
Then imagine one is appointed, and people argue that they should not have been appointed because they don't speak one of the "founding" languages.
The province has bought 25 modular homes for $7.4 million. The 2- and 3-bedroom homes will be available for rent to people displaced by the recent wildfires while they rebuild. Rents are $1k-$2k/month, month-to-month leases
When experts said that there was a toxic culture in resource industry man camps that was putting women at risk, conservatives positively *scoffed* at the idea, said it was an insult.
Glad we made sacrifices and didn’t see family over the holidays so that they could keep the malls open, and so that the kids can go back to overcrowded, poorly ventilated classrooms with no testing so that they can spread COVID indiscriminately.
