This coastline was right on the Norse interface through the c.9th to c.13th. A handy spot to pull up your longship?

I believe there's a fair chance of early medieval usage. A river runs by the base of it, with close connection to sea loch. There is neighbouring haughland to graze & pull up boats. The hill has cliffs on 3 sides & is the stopper in a bottleneck to the fertile valley to the north

Stole a few hours away today to luxuriate in exploring the site of a fort at Barmore Hill, guarding Ormidale in Cowal. Records on https://t.co/pzsl9faoKC state this large fort was recorded in the 1960s/70s, but no secure dating was done. With the history of this location 1/3

Eadgyth of Wessex, wife of Otto I, king of Germany, died #OTD in 946. She was supposedly a descendant of Northumbrian king St Oswald, and promoted his cult in her adopted home.

Guðrøðr (Gothfrith), Norse king of Dublin, raided Armagh, chief church of the Irish, #OTD in 921. It was Martinmas Eve, and it would have been filled with people, food and drink. Guðrøðr was briefly king of York before Æthelstan, king of the Anglo-Saxons, drove him out in 927.

Pictish king Onuist and Eadberht, king of the Northumbrians, led their respective armies to Dumbarton Rock #OTD in 756, where the Clyde Britons agreed to a treaty, perhaps involving the payment of tribute as a grudged but necessary alternative to violence. ©Eddie Mackinnon

Aedán mac Gabráin, king of Dál Riata, died #OTD in 608. He campaigned in Orkney, the Isle of Man and against the Miathi of the Forth Valley. In 603, he was soundly defeated by Æthelfrith, king of Bernicia and Deira, at Degsastán (possibly Dawston Rigg, Liddesdale).

Or perhaps Strathclyde's royal centre at Partick with its religious centre at @GovanStones is the location? Has the Britons' inauguration complex been levelled along with the doomster hill, or does it lie under Patrick's urban sprawl? Is there a better candidate somewhere else?
