A YouTuber named @Theo is demanding that the @FFmpeg project (the open source video encoding tool used across the computer world) kick out a contributor (the person running their X account) — and has offered a $20,000 bounty to FFmpeg if they give in to @Theo’s demands. Theo,

@joshmanders @EdgerOdin @hibakod My guy, giving 5k for some online beef and then offering 20k SERIOUSLY to fire someone he disagrees with, you find this normal ? Really ? Because let me tell you rn, I will never ever be alright with this kind of online bullying and actions, however you turn the situation around

@joshmanders @hibakod You are parroting Theo. The people criticizing haven't contributed anything. Even Theo had not contributed anything until he found that the person who he picked a fight with, had actually contributed. He then panic donated to save face and now thinks he is entitled to changes.

A story told in two pics: Seems to be the Find Out phase of your Fuck Around nonsense @theo Maybe you shouldn’t threaten businesses of others if you can’t take the heat on your own Seems @amirhaleem and @helium are still running! Be better and this won’t happen I’d bet 🙏🏻

There are two types of @FFmpeg supporters Some donate and go about their business coz they know how much effort it takes. Others try to add terms and conditions to donations and want to cause job loss. Imagine spending money and time on a positive thing in this world.

Seems like possible one concern is the buildup of resistance internally as they’re additive and this will restrict the ability for current to flow? Is that still a concern and blocker at 500w power draw though assuming house outlets can support 1800w without issue? 🤔

And given that total power draw of 500w is less than typical range of home outlets 1800w-2400w then what is the fire or heat risk here exactly? What’s the problem with splitting one outlet into 25 different ones, plugging usb dongles into each, then charging 25 phones at 20w?

I’m not a sparky but learning some electrical while building with my homelab Can anybody explain what technically is the issue with doing this if the total power draw is low? Assume 25 devices connected all fast charging with 20W each Isn’t that just 500W total power draw?

Amazing! 5 times larger donation than the one @theo dangled in an attempt to get the operator of the FFmpeg account fired and removed from his role (before withdrawing donation) 20 times larger than the one he made out of spite/salty rage from last encounter Kudos @Nithin0dha👏

We would like to thank @Nithin0dha for the $100k donation to FFmpeg (pending)! While this does not solve the funding problems behind FFmpeg and Open Source in general, it's a step forward to a sustainable future for Open Source Software.

@amirhaleem @helium The question I think people need to be asking here @LundukeJournal is where the boundary lies between “social media influencer” and “cyber bullying instigator” because someone the size of @theo can be reasonably confident in how his followers respond to such inflammatory claims.

And here’s the post where he openly threatens @amirhaleem over him defending his company @helium and the brand he’s built for it: https://t.co/2SV9rrCE1g Theo has done this several times including rallying his followers against the dev infringing on his own trademark. Shameful.

Same hypocrite that recently swore to destroy the business of a 10+ year old company going through the legally mandated process of responding to trademark confusion to protect their brand. Theo did this at the same time as he defended his own trademark: https://t.co/7d37g3IUcw

Some early HC employees will probably remember me joking that it was my divine mission to eliminate YAML from the world. I joked I started HC only to kill YAML. Like, back in 2013. And we (as an industry) were so close! Then Kubernetes came out and fucked it all up.

Kafka consumers started lagging behind. 3 hours of lag. Growing every hour. Metrics showed: - Producer rate: 12k messages/second - Consumer rate: 8k messages/second - Consumer should handle 15k/second easily - CPU: 30% - Memory: 45% - Network: not saturated We scaled consumers:

Level this up once more by using hashicorp vault AWS Secrets Engine to make your credentials on demand and single use only with extremely short lived expirations. No long lived access credentials available to be exploited since all one time use and generated on demand. Zero trust

We were updating secrets by redeploying pods. Every secret change meant downtime. The old way: - Edit Kubernetes secret - Delete pods to force recreation - Pods pull new secrets on startup - 30 seconds of downtime per secret rotation Then we implemented HashiCorp Vault Agent

This is an important consideration when pushing new code Testing in staging or other pre-production envs is only properly representative of prod when all other conditions in production are kept in parity (~almost never) That’s why safely testing in production is often necessary

@NikoNaskida @brankopetric00 Most likely all stages before prod had a db that was substantially smaller than prod.
