The goal is to develop a ‘chemical blueprint’ for the design of new #superconductors. The connection to experiment synthesis, i.e., reality, is key. He and his group collaborate with experimental groups. It is currently funded by a Villum Young Investigator grant.

He aims to target the problem using a combination of high-level #computation, #crystallography and #quantumchemical theory. He is particularly focused on #superconductivity - so far not fully understood; the methods are grounded in group theory and many-body quantum field theory.

It allows her to follow the formation process of the nanoparticles, starting from precursor complex structure to intermediate phase and eventually to final phase. Through gaining a deep understanding of the formation mechanisms, the nanoparticles can be better used as catalysts.

Wang got her MSc in Nano Science at @uni_copenhagen, and has a BE in Engineering from Wuhan Institute of Technology. She uses in situ X-ray total scattering together with pair distribution function analysis.

Compared to other metals such as Au or Pt, knowledge has been missing on the nature of prenucleation species and structural insights into the resultant nanoparticles, especially for nanoparticles obtained from IrxCly precursors, which the researchers have investigated here.

X-ray total scattering measurements at the Advanced Photon Source in Argonne, US. The synthesis of iridium nanoparticles from IrxCly is a valuable Ir nanoparticle model system, which can provide new compositional and structural insights into Ir nanoparticle formation and growth.

17 researchers, incl. @kirsten_mj, @UCPH_Research & several other Danish plus some international researchers investigated colloidal iridium nanoparticles in the US with support from DanScatt. The result was published in @J_A_C_S

E-XFEL Workshop 2023 will be on May 31 and June 1 at @aalborg_uni in Aalborg – just before DanScatt’s annual meeting. Deadline for registration is May 16. Users of the XFEL facilities will talk about past experiences, new opportunities and new ideas.

Ions can be in wild disorder in batteries. Sometimes it will do the batteries better, other times worse. Bettina Pilgaard Andersen, PhD student at @Chemistry_AU, is working to find out when the disorder is an advantage or disadvantage to the battery life cycle.
