๐ŸŽ‰Big congrats to Dr. @haoqing_hu @CTSCB_HK for winning the Hong Kong Genome Institute Prize 2024 for the best research thesis in Genome Science!๐Ÿ‘Her outstanding work on engineered SOX17 (eSOX17) under Prof. Ralf Jauch @jauchr @hkusbms explored its role in cell fate conversion.

SOX and POU are crucial Transcription Factors in animal development, believed to be innovations. We found them in unicellular relatives of animals. And hold tight, you can use a choanoflagellate ๐Ÿฆ  SOX gene to make a full chimeric ๐Ÿ ! Read more here: https://t.co/oCmQjV3WIB 1/6

Nature Communications - The pluripotency program is maintained by transcription factors from the Sox and POU families. Here they identify SOX and POU factors from unicellular relatives of animals...

Animal Stem cells probably appeared 700-800 million years ago. We found that two key molecules that make our stem cells the way they are even older than that as they even existed before the evolution of animals. 1/n

Congrats to @haoqing_hu who led a team to show why it needs SOX17 rather than SOX2 to generate pluripotent and multipotent stem cells with high efficiency and quality @NAR_Open @hkumed https://t.co/sVptyBRBAU

Sharing our work on Oct4's fascinating flexibility engaging in the genome. Here, Oct4 binds a palindromic DNA that is usually methylated and it does so as a dimer using only one of its sub-domains. Thanks to everyone who made this possible! https://t.co/RNd9QeZcgP
