Damn this is sad. A month away from induction into the greatest Hall of Fame in sports. This dude was Swag before the word was created. And a great, not good, great hitter. #RIPCOBRA.

Congrats to Whit on a great career. A true professional and a genuinely good guy. Worked his ass off to make it to the big leagues, then proceeded to work even harder to become an All-Star. Made his family and his Gamecock family incredibly proud in everything he did.
Whit Merrifield has announced his retirement after 9 seasons spent with the Royals, Blue Jays, Phillies and Braves. He was an All-Star in 2019, 2021 and 2023. He also led the Majors in hits in back-to-back seasons (2018-19).
