CV Raman was not just an outstanding scientist he was an outstanding mentor too. All his PhD students were of exceptional caliber. The great GN Ramachandran was the discoverer/inventor of the Ramachandran plot.
Remembering today on his birth anniversary GN Ramachandran, the genius who should have got not one or two but three Nobel prizes - for Collagen; ΦΨ plot; and Tomography. Forget Nobel or Bharatratna, he wasn't even awarded a Padma - any Padma. A Forgotten Hero of Indian Science.

Both Information geometry and General theory of relativity is based on tensor calculus and differential geometry. NR Sen was a pioneer in the field of general relativity. He was the colleague of SN Bose and MN Saha who were the first to translate Einsteins works to English
The Calcutta Mathematical Society published two important pioneer papers in information geometry in the same issue, vol. 37, in 1945: - The Fisher-Rao geometry celebrated paper of CR Rao - The dualistic structure of connections of RN Sen

That was when Calcutta and Calcutta university was teeming with smart people and politics hadn't destroyed everything.....

Gangakishore Bhattacharya, considered the first Bengali printer, began his career as a compositor at the The Serampore Mission Press. The Press was founded by the missionaries Carey, Ward, and Marshman. In 1818, the Press also published the first Bengali newspaper and magazine.
In 1755, they secured a new foothold upriver from Calcutta called Serampore (or Frederiksnagore, as they tried to call it).

Those are actually Indian numerals. It's called Arabic because the Europeans learnt it from the Arabs(who in turn had learned from the Indians) https://t.co/A2iRY5v5C2

SSSL is a timeless classic😍Would be amazing had Satyajit made a movie out of it! IMHO It was more about how শ্যামবাবু and বাবু গণ্ডেরীরাম বাট্পারিয়া teamed up than গণ্ডেরীরামalone😂he also exposed the blind religiosity of middle class Bengalis-দি অটোম্যাটিক শ্রীদুর্গাগ্রাফ,
“Shree Shree Siddheshwari limited” Is my personal fav & has achieved a cult status . The short story detailed in a humorous manner how Bhujiya seths scammed the system The modus operandi still remains same https://t.co/og2T0buUFp

End of an era and beginning of another 🌄
In 1757 fresh from his victory at the Battle of Plassey, Robert Clive was invited by Raja Nabakrishna Deb to the grand #DurgaPuja at Sovabazar Rajbari #Kolkata This was more than festival - it was a political milestone that symbolized Brits power blending with Bengal aristocracy

Really well researched write up and loved all the details! I was just reading his Mahabharata when I came across your post. Didn't know just like Sri Shaila (who illustrated Shobram's work) he too had a illustrator.
Parashuram'er Panchali🧵 "Jack of All Trades, Master of All" if the sobriquet fits any luminary Bengali laureate, then it’s one & only Rajsekhar Basu aka Parshuram, such a diverse portfolio From Perfume to Printing, Chemistry to Caricature – everywhere Parshuram is omnipresent

Amazing!! The story sounds like titash ekti nodir nam (impoverished fishermen). Also "Faiz Ahmad Faiz wrote the screenplay" did he read Bangla?

Nothing wrong in "marveling over past saying and artifacts" as long it's not blind reverence and if that leads to fruitful future research. One shortcoming of statistics is our anecdotes and heroes are not well documented-no wonder we have a "new" area called data science
it’s fascinating to me how physics bros treat dead physicists like prophets, marveling over their past sayings and artifacts

A true Obi Wan. Look at him roaring like a tiger even at this age. May he keep being a beacon of hope and reason and keep guiding us amidst the current darkness that we are engulfed in ..
#WATCH | Kolkata, West Bengal: Nobel laureate Amartya Sen says, "I am less concerned about the SIR now...the Supreme Court also mentioned how important this issue is for Indian democracy. So I'm happy that the Supreme Court is working for the people of India in this case, even
