I’m not rly struggling in this work, I am very comfortable where I’m at, and still I’m thinking about other industry’s to move into because comics isn’t a stable place to work. That fact that even someone like me can’t do this forever feels like sign this shit ain’t right.

Fortunately I had a lot ability to take L’s, I got into self-publishing and now I’m here. But, I came up with numerous artists more talented than me who couldn’t afford to get scammed and are not really working in comics anymore.

when i left SCAD i had no idea how to work anywhere but the big two, i had to learn publishing on my own. The first comics people I worked with strung me along and/or finessed tons of free work from me. All became I didn’t know better

I’m off twitter, coming back briefly for #comicsbrokeme to say despite having the perfect mix of opportunities to succeed and be successful in comics, numerous awards, ect., and a love of drawing, every book feels like it could be my last.

With the Nib closing, here's a few things (among many) that made me love working for it: contracts that kept all IP in the artists' hands with zero rent seeking, a promo operation that knew & valued what it published, and always paying artists a living wage. Thnx @MattBors

Not too long ago i was in Ohio doing a talk for the Art of the News show and thinking about how far comics journalism has come. About how much comics journalism has grown in the US because the Nib made a place where a lot of us could do really good work.

Could not be more crushed that the @thenib is closing its doors. They took a risk on me before anyone was really reading me. I doubt I’d be where I’m at if they hadn’t let me go off on subjects no one else would pay me to make.
