There is much talk happening on how to solve the so-called cost-of-living crisis. Most of it fails to recognise that the problem is much bigger than that: the whole economy is in meltdown. None seems to address the cost of energy itself. A thread on the last, vital, point….

I find it remarkably moving to see a Labour Cabinet meet for the first time in 14 years, to see a Labour PM take a press conference with calm competence and transparency and to think how many things are now possible that were unthinkable only 72 hours ago.

Imagine if a referendum were held in which 52% of those who voted declared that the Earth was flat. And that subsequently everyone in the UK was forced to behave as if the Earth was indeed flat, and all main parties said "Ok, flat it is. Evidence be damned." That's Brexit.
