Hot take: Crypto marketing works best when it stops trying to sound like crypto. The best messaging focuses on the “So what” and communicates with users clearly on the outcome. If you’re only highlighting the product specs over human utility, you’re not selling the product to

A clear narrative is the anchor of successful crypto marketing. Without a story to hold the pieces together: > Content feels like a series of random events. > Growth becomes erratic and impossible to replicate. > Communities drift away because there is nothing to belong to.
Nike doesn’t sell shoes, it sells stories of perseverance. Airbnb doesn’t sell rentals, it sells belonging. The best entrepreneurs build narratives that move people. Here’s how to be a great storyteller in business: Master this, and your brand will sell itself.

Who wants to eat good food and meet awesome people in NYC?
Last year @zjbrenner posted a simple tweet that went unexpectedly viral. He asked if anyone in NYC wanted to grab dinner at a @blackbird restaurant. Today, we have 135 members based in NYC who work in crypto. I’ve met an incredible mix of VCs, founders, lawyers, tokenomics

Last night I went out to dinner with a bunch of random people. Saw a post on X about a dinner and I just showed up. In life, take every single opportunity. Ended up inviting them all for a dinner sometime down the line. Meet people. Network. Smile. Laugh. This is life.

6. TL;DR: Crypto needs storytelling because the industry is shifting from “speculation-driven growth” to “product-driven adoption.” Hype gets people in the door. Storytelling gets them to stay, understand, trust, and advocate.

5. Third, storytelling is the bridge to Web2 adoption. Web2 users don’t care about L1 TPS benchmarks, validator sets, or tokenomics diagrams. They care about: -What does this do for me? -Why should I switch? -Why does this exist? If crypto wants mainstream adoption, it has to

4. Second, storytelling builds trust. Crypto has a trust deficit. There have been rugs, hacks, failures, and over-promises for years. Storytelling, done consistently, gives users a reason to believe this is different.

3. First, storytelling creates comprehension. Most crypto products die because no one knows: -What they do -Who they’re for -Why they matter Hype doesn’t solve that. A clear narrative does. If people can’t explain your protocol in one sentence, you won’t get mass

2. We’re not in 2021 anymore where a flashy launch could carry a product for 6 months. Now: -Products are more complex -Users are more skeptical -Teams are competing not just with other crypto apps, but with Web2 products that have world-class UX and world-class narratives

Why does crypto need brand storytelling? Hype marketing works, but only for the top of funnel. It gets attention, not adoption. Crypto is entering a phase where attention alone doesn’t move the needle.

As someone who studied journalism and integrated marketing at @MedillSchool @NorthwesternU this “trend” is long over due. While anyone can post memes and rage bait, the crypto community is in desperate need of real storytellers who can create a clear & cohesive narrative.

The leverage has shifted away from performance marketing, and the ones who win are creatives with genuine care and vision of the craft.
