Me: There are new cUTI guidelines! Financial analyst partner: I’ll tell my friends.
🚨IDSA has released the first guidelines for the management and treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs)! The new guidelines simplify the prior definitions of uncomplicated UTIs and cUTIs, & address treatment for cUTIs. View guidelines: https://t.co/jauYIl0Zyv

It was their will coupled with the kindness of others that I’m here today with a vastly different (and much easier) life. /7

For many immigrants, a lot of what comes with the adversity and years of waiting is sheer luck. My parents escaped their home countries on wooden boats, faced imprisonment, lived in refugee camps, and were robbed, beaten, and mistreated. /6

I left the room trying not to cry (I failed miserably in the txp work room that afternoon). I am so grateful to have an education in the health sciences that enables me to enhance the wellbeing of my community—one of the many opportunities immigration has brought to my family. /5

We chatted about my older cousins (same age as her children), how I called her parents Oma & Opa, how I spent my childhood summers at a mutual friend's house on Lake Michigan. I told her how appreciative I was of her family & she thanked me for what I was now doing for hers. /4

Later, Marcia was transferred to the floor and getting ready for discharge. I spoke with her about her new immunosuppression, infection prophylaxis, and supportive care medications. Then she asked me, “Who is your mother?” After I responded, she exclaimed, “I knew it!” /3

(Shared w/ permission) Marcia was intubated & sedated in the SICU when we rounded on her. Her blood sugar was uncontrolled, so I called her husband Gerry to ask about her home insulin regimen. I remember recognizing their area code as my own, from the other side of the state. /2

About a decade ago, I found out one of my patient' families sponsored my family from Laos to the US. And that was why I was at @umichmedicine in a little white coat, counseling her on liver txp meds. We were honored to celebrate our Baci & Tea ceremony w/ my pt & her husband. /1
