The first 3 scifi book covers of The Wrecking Squad have a red/orange explosive theme to reflect they form a trilogy, an end to one story arc. The next 3 have a blue/green/gold theme as the crew are drawn into the fight to save their system from the human/AI hybrid the โButcherโ.

And remember, for all those bad things that happened, your antagonist gets a quick and mostly clean death. No lingering, dragging, or any of the things they truly deserve in a long drawn-out fashion.
And while you're at it, do the same to all the MC's friends. except the plot utility ones... knock them off after their use is used. Your MC deserves loneliness and trauma and maybe a superficial sunset in the end.

Your protagonist doesn't need a RI... they need to watch their RI die in a horrific, gory, graphic, meticulous way while there's nothing they can do about it. Character growth, happy dreams cut short, and new angsty motivations are yay!
