We absolutely need to know more about nuclear testing in Kazakhstan! I grew up in Aktobe/West Kazakhstan and there was plenty of testing there, underground. But my mother also recalled a big mushroom exploding on the horizon in the 1950s. Many young people with throat cancer.
Thank you so much Tereza! The story with Aigerim Seitenova continues, we will have more podcasts. Sadly her documentary film screening abt radioactive patriarchy was cancelled on 29 Aug in Semey as a form of political censorship (bc its anti-Soviet & focusing on Soviet crimes)

I highly recommend following Seitenovaโs work and watching her JARA documentary on Semipalatinsk nuclear weapons testing site and radioactive patriarchy. Hope the documentary will be available widely soon ๐

Aigerim Seitenova continues to fiercely fight for the truth about the nuclear weapons testing site but unfortunately the myth of โall good Sovietnessโ continues to silence survivors of Soviet crime like she and her main protagonists in the documentary are.

A call to researchers & activists who might want to further critically explore the affective attachment to the USSR and the hammer & sickle, and to address how it fuels present genocide denial and also inhibits the Leftโs ability to identify and oppose nonwestern forms of fascism
@geogvma @DurdiyevaSelbi We think it could be rather helpful if someone with expertise in social psychology and/or related disciplines was keen to do further thinking on this, weโd be very happy to share the full text
