When looking at broad attitudes (on psychometric tools like the ATS-21), we find modest labelling effects with person-first language linked to less negative views. At the individual level, using person-first language had no effect on desired social distance / emotional appraisal.

We have a new paper published in the Journal of Sexual Aggression. This one has been long in the writing. We show differential effects of the "sex offender" label as we varied the level of analysis. @R_Lievesley @psychlincs

These will undoubtedly be things I grapple with for a long time. But this year, more than ever, I'm grateful for #InternationalMensDay for providing the space and opportunity to highlight and reflect on these issues. In time, I hope my boys will appreciate this opportunity too.

Becoming a dad of boys adds another layer of reflection. How to model 'positive masculinity' while preventing them internalising social negativity about men and masculinity. How to encourage both traditionally masculine values and the expression of vulnerability as they grow up.

These challenges are not recognised in 'maternity' services. New dads need help. How to adapt to the new role? How to balance returning to work with new family life? How to bond with a baby (or two in my case)? I sought this elsewhere (thanks @dr_aMachin for your wonderful book!).

These changes are profound, and challenge everything you previously thought about who you are. Your values, your priorities, and your goals. Fundamentally, what being "a man" is, and how you embody this.

This week I've been thinking more than usual about #InternationalMensDay, and reflecting on my recent experiences of becoming a first time dad of twin boys. Nothing prepares you for the complete change in perspective and shift in identity that becoming a father brings.

Exeter away moved to a 12.30 kick off says everything about this Sky Sports deal for the EFL. Commercial interest placed ahead of fan attendance in a move that will chip away at the strength of the English football pyramid. Next target: the 3pm blackout.

⚽️ Three further City games during the 2024/25 season have had their kick-off times brought forward for live TV coverage - the trip to Exeter City in November, as well as the home fixtures against Reading and Charlton Athletic in December. #WeAreImps.

New preprint with @R_Lievesley, @ellieiwoodward1, Lauren Stubbs, and Roanna Wilson, where we found that more life-like sex dolls and sex robots, those that resemble children, and those used for sexual purposes are judged most negatively. Read more here:

Linguistically, Rishi is doing a very interesting thing here. "Don't surrender your/our. " when ending his answer on every policy speaks directly to the floating Reform voter. #bbcdebate.
