you'd think it would be distasteful but it's actually really masterfully handled and maybe even more poignant than the original.

disney's live-action Iron Giant remake features the giant declaring "i am a gun" before killing the beatnik and embarking on a violent rampage across the eastern seaboard. the kid has to befriend another alien robot the government had in storage and get him to fight the giant.
