This is the kind of willful blindness Calvinists engage in all the time. According to Sproul, Peter is writing this letter to the elect — people he supposedly knows are chosen to be saved, unable to resist God’s grace — and warning them that if they should once again become.
R.C. Sproul beautifully explains 2 Peter 3:9: . "A passage you hear all the time: 'God is not willing that any should perish.' I'm bloodied and bruised from being hit with that verse. Peter's clearly teaching that God is not willing that any of the Elect should perish."

FYI: Calvinists deploy “sovereignty” as a motte-and-bailey rhetorical strategy. Motte: Ultimate divine authority . Bailey: “All events are governed by God’s secret plan.” (Institutes 1.16.2). The motte is Scriptural and the analogy fits. The bailey… not so much.
"I don't think we're ever going to see a healthy evangelical church until the evangelical church is reformed—solidly reformed—where it takes seriously biblical Christianity and its concept of a sovereign God.". R.C. Sproul
