One of many big issues with the “whitelash” theory of Trumpism is that it, like most commentary, overrepresents the diehards when analyzing Trump supporters. It may be true these highly visible supporters voted out of spite but most of his voters are just low engagement normies.
This is why I think voters were full of shit when they said their #1 issue in 2024 was cost-of-living. They KNOW that voting on the basis of which candidate is more likely to feed immigrants to alligators is psychotic, so they had the sense to lie about it to pollsters.

This was vital, as this was not only a legislative misstep but a political one, as the splitting of BBB turned Biden’s agenda into a discombobulated mess that voters didn’t understand. The left of course warned of this at the time and got rewarded with primary challenges. (Sigh).
Yet again making the point that Biden's decision to split the centerpiece of his presidency into two bills (the BBB & the infrastructure bill) was why it failed in 2021 - and we can see this by the fact that Trump just succeeded where he failed by doing the opposite.

Hard to process how extraordinary this is. The ADL has spent a century being universally respected and trusted by American institutions and has gotten away with shit for years. They’re now being consigned to the dustbin of history with their rabid support for far-right politics.

The most important line: “DSA organizers have spent more than a decade embedding themselves in neighborhoods, parent-teacher organizations, and tenant associations”. This is how you defeat plutocracy. Attack ads can’t beat cultivated trust for a politician you know and recognize.

It’s pretty incredible that the people polling at -28% think they have the right to accuse the people polling at -9% of being an existential threat to their “brand.” Even a demonstrably unpopular socialist party would be immeasurably less toxic than this Democratic establishment.

Let this be a great reminder that good things can absolutely happen and progressives can absolutely win. I was an exceptionally staunch advocate for congestion pricing and even I did not expect it to work so incredibly well this quickly and completely. Genuinely a policy miracle.

Couldn’t agree more. The foundation of GOP strategy is imposing gish gallop on a national scale with complete message discipline. It was Biden’s inflation, Biden’s wars, Biden’s border crisis, day after day, expressed in a demonizing way. It’s the attention economy, stupid.
been thinking a lot about how The Left needs to create a new lane: not voter shaming, not Thoughts and Prayers, but relentlessly and viciously blaming our class enemies. when there’s a disaster in texas it should be associated with cruz and abbott at benghazi/ clinton levels.
