You want to throw harder? Learn to rotate faster 🌪️ According to @DrivelineBB data, torso rotational velocity is the #1 correlate to velocity in the throw. But how do you train it? 🧵

Love this. Players routinely compensate in the offseason and build mechanics around turf mound velocity. Maximizing mechanical efficiency is fundamentally different on clay vs turf; akin to flatground vs mound; or a less extreme version of tennis players on clay vs grass vs hard.
Pitchers: Have you tried golf shoes on turf mounds? This seems to be one of the closer feelings to throwing in spikes if you can't throw on dirt inside. While I've only tried this with a few guys, the feedback has been great so far. If you've tried it, how well have the spikes

62% of UCL tears in MLB pitchers happen in the first three months of the season. Not August, not September. April through June. The culprit isn’t the radar gun — it’s poor ramp-up. Bodies enter the season unprepared, velocity spikes, and the elbow pays the price. (Read the full

Real life MLB the show! @alonleichman2
The Marlins are calling pitches from the dugout tonight. They’re using the common youth baseball system of a two number code to the catcher. Catcher has an armband with all the pitches, finds the corresponding location on the card (think Battleship), and sends the pitch out via

A bullpen stalwart for two seasons at @UCSB_Baseball, Cole Tryba was utterly dominant out of the @FirebirdsCCBL 'pen this summer, going 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA and a 28-7 K-BB in 25.1 IP over 11 outings. @aaronfitt has more on @tryba51 and other Orleans pitchers ⤵️

Cam has had an incredible journey from this time last year, gaining almost 5 mph to now topping 97 in games regularly. For a talented HS arm, the recipe for velo gains was: -Strength/Power -Lean muscle mass -Volume in offseason throwing plan (never increasing volume and

Had a great mid-season meeting with the Phillies player development staff that made me reflect on how many low-future-value minor leaguers (such as myself) optimize for the wrong reward function. Most players naturally favor a slightly positive expected value approach with very

This is a great tactic for college/high school programs in fall ball and even during the season. It's obvious for the fall why players should have different priorities--some played all summer, some trained, some were hurt, etc. In season, however, while most players will be in
Bucketing for development: Whether you know it or not, you have already done this. If you've ever generalized a player, made a statement about their capabilities, or categorized their style of play, you've already "bucketed" your player.

Next up - Aaron Shortridge Shorty sat 93 with a 5 pitch mix for strikes. Possesses unique potential with a high slot supination bias and velo that continues to climb. Dude’s gonna have a long career. Will be a big pick up for whoever decides to give him a chance.

RHP - AJ Puckett (@Puckett_AJ15) flew in from the DR where he’s racked up over 40 dominant innings, showcased a ridiculous plot (T96.9), then flew back to the DR and shoved his next outing. This guy 100% has the stuff to compete in the show. Sinker, 4SFB, CT, SW - all elite.

Aaron Shortridge gearing up for @TreadHQ Pro Day this weekend. Has been sitting 91-94 with more in the tank after spending the off-season out here in Charlotte. Career 4.07 ERA in 437 IP. Updated arsenal mixing 5 pitches for strikes as velo continues to climb 📈

A few great points here: - Throw breaking balls in catch play, throw them before you start throwing pens, throw them in your first pens - Yes, it's great to get feel for fastballs first, however, breaking balls take more time to get the feel for so don't delay - Breaking balls
@LanceBroz @amarchesani12 Austin made some great points in his replies about relative torque values, etc. The biggest benefit (imo) of throwing breaking balls in the off-season is due to the fact that the flexors of the forearm are active to varying degrees based on supination or pronation.

This is something I always talk about with guys--yes, it's important to be able to move the heater around, but things get super simple once you have 3+ pitches you can land in the zone. Random is good -Hitter now need to account for different locations and speeds -Chase swings
#Phillies Pitching Coach Caleb Cotham on the importance of repertoire depth: “Throw more pitches, with simpler plans, to make hitters account for different spots in the zone, and be random.” One of my favorite quotes from @WFPlayerDev’s Player Development Seminar so far.

Honestly, any non-prospect should be taking calculated risks in their training. Depending on your deficiencies, select all that apply: -Strength Program (exercises, strength vs. speed, reps, frequency, load, etc.) -Mobility Work -Nutrition/Body Composition -Throwing
True high performance exists on a spectrum way wider than just the weight room. The real job is managing the stress adaptation cycle in a holistic fashion, allowing the athlete to improve at what matters most. 🔑📈
