Our billboard today reminding Western Australians, and Australian politicians how badly we are being ripped off. Makes one wonder how our politicians have let this happen, and why they are doing nothing to fix it. #auspol

"That’s an extra $4.7 billion per month going to the banks, and out of the pockets of Australian households and the other businesses where they would be spending it. This is the cost-of-living crisis." @alankohler https://t.co/iC3oPMHY8Z

The other day a young couple bought a nice three-bedroom house in Bentleigh East, 23 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, for $1,263,000.

We're amongst the choir of agreeing economists who agree this simple change should happen. We're not convinced it will make a huge difference to affordability but the incentive to speculate in the existing housing stock is certainly not helping.

State governments could ... penalise dark roofs and give incentives for light-coloured roofs ... it would help keep our cities cooler as the world heats up. But outside South Australia, it’s just not happening.

We could make our hot cities cooler with white roofs and light roads. But progress has been glacially slow.
