🧵This challenge would be huge for anyone, but it’s worth remembering that Steve is registered blind, adding a whole extra level of difficulty to the challenge. They are raising money @theRMcharity Show your support & donate via https://t.co/lO9dowV8V4 #royalmarines #Falklands

🧵Yesterday they completed their penultimate sea paddle, and their last sea kayak tomorrow will be to Barrow. After that they will relocate to Lancaster canal. Mick & Steve are travelling 650m, mainly by kayak to mark 40th since the #Falklands conflict in which they both served.

🧵 Following the order to abandon ship, Adam was taken on board HMS Arrow. In part of our series of interviews we have done with people directly involved in the conflict, Adam describes being onboard HMS Sheffield and what happened after it was hit. https://t.co/2VjzMusLax

🧵40 years ago today, 4th May 1982, HMS Sheffield was hit by a missile during the Falklands conflict. Of the 268 crew members, 20 were killed and many more injured. Adam Lawton was a Junior Seaman on board HMS Sheffield and has spoken to us about his experience. #HMSSheffield

The winds have been too strong to kayak for the last few days, but that hasn’t stopped Mick & Steve. In true Royal Marine style they have yomped over the last few days to keep them on track for the rest of their journey; today ten miles from Ayr to Culzean Castle. #Falklands40

#Falklands40 The 11 day cruise south to the Ascension Islands involved intense physical training around the SS Canberra’s 1/4 mile promenade deck that encircled the ship. I’m pretty sure I got off the cruise liner fitter than when I got in it! Photo: March to the South Atlantic

Today they are passing one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the British isles ‘Gulf of Corryvreckan' 😬 so that should keep them out of mischief 😊 #Falklands40 #Falklands #royalmarines #veterans

The weather isn’t looking great for the next couple of days so they are staying put in Oban until it improves and will be using the time to meet with some of those personally affected by the Falklands conflict in 1982. #royalmarine #falklands #falklands40

The scenery on today’s leg of the journey was simply stunning! Mick & Steve are now in Oban. After camping out last night, they are currently enjoying a warm shower and a nice cuppa at Oban Sailing Club who have kindly put them up for the night. #Falklands40 #falklands #kayak

Day 2: An early start for Mick & Steve as they set off from Corran on route to Oban. This 650 mile kayak would be a challenge for anyone, but did you know that Steve is registered blind, adding another level of difficulty to the challenge. #falklands40 #royalmarine #kayak

Where were you when you heard war had broken out in the #Falklands 40 years ago today? Two veterans, including one from #Brighton, are starting a 650 mile kayak for the @theRMcharity and to remember other soldiers who didn't return. @Cockleshellende
