This was dope. Principal Reed didn’t have to do this. But we appreciate it. These boys fought a looooot of adversity. Shout out to my coaching staff. The family did family stuff and put in a lot of work. We have a looong way to go. But, we built it once before. ✊🏾🤞🏾.

Wednesday…. My boys did something that no team has done before them. Doesn’t mean a lot to the world of high school basketball. But it meant something to them. I’m proud to have helped them achieve that. And as long as I’m there… that will be an M.O. of #FirebaughBoysHoops.

Last time this happened was Covid season. I lost 6 out of my 12 in the first week. Made it to the city semis with 6. We WALKED the entire game all season. That was the most fun I had game planning since the chip season at Pali.

This goes down as one of the wildest years of coaching, in my life. Fun. But wild. 4-6 players sick for the last 3 weeks. All of my coaches sick, including me last week. WILD!!! Nothing taken from the teams who beat us. That was fair and square. But damn. Then we made history.

I need y’all to know that starting from scratch is such a weird, tough thing to do. But turning your back to the world and focusing on helping kids become the hoopers they hoped to be and watching them grow in that hope with family as my staff… that’s the blessing.

What makes it worse is… it was a two point game at the half even with the ringers til they put them all out there. 😂😂😂 this is why I dislike AAU ball. But I use it to get my kids better in the face of adversity. They’re being taught no one is coming to save you!!!.

Me playing my kids up is no one’s fault. They’re tried by fire. But when do we stop travel ball teams from bringing down their absolute best just to make it look like they have good programs cuz the bronze trophies don’t say bronze on them?.
