THREAD: OW2 transition, starting with the announcement until now will live on as one of the worst examples of mismanagement, botched communication, and terrible leadership in gaming history. I do not blame the devs working, nor is it fair to even blame the current leadership.
Overwatch 2 update from the Dev Chat:
Original PvE vision from 2019 is no more. Talent trees scrapped, and there will be no standalone version.
It's just little bits of PvE such as missions/stories released with each PvP season as part of their live service.
Man... 😢
You know it's ok to just slow down the content schedule for quality over quantity. I guess the Battle Pass schedule pushes things along, but this doesn't strike me as Mythic. Maybe I'm being too negative, though.
This is a funny meme, but some folks are saying it proof of power creep- it's not. Instead, it's proof of a more engaging design philosophy.
OW1 heroes often lacked dynamics/had obvious strengths and weaknesses. OW2 design is much more dynamic (and better, in my opinion)
Stop talking about nerfing Ana.
I'm tired of reading complaints about Ana pickrate, when, she's a flexible, high skill/reward ceiling support that's very fun to play.
If Moira/Mercy/LW/Baptiste had that level of reward/fun to skill, then they'd be more popular.

shouldn't be a hot take, but role lock is as close to objectively good as an opinion can be. No role lock wasn't player "agency" for the vast majority of the playerbase- it was an abused format that made improving in ranked a chore, and was frequently used by tilted players to…

i watched skiesti singlehandedly decimate the entire blizzard security team + 2 uber drivers at LAN- keep talking trash and she'll break you like a bad habit, kid.
If this happens, good riddance to an artificial, bloated, mismanaged mess of a league that pretended to be everything it was not. Love the players, desk, and teams, hate the league.
Overwatch League will be offering esports teams a $6 million termination fee if they do not agree with an upcoming operating agreement to continue the League or not
This could be the end of the Overwatch League...
Burst Armor Pack is the 2nd biggest complaint behind Suzu when I see these ragebait clips. Probably something to look at in the future, that being said, I’m a little bored of these clips that conveniently ignore the fact it’s both supports CD dumping into a tank form bastion.
this video and song single-handedly exorcised all of zoomer demons i have accumulated over the last few years. good ol' fashion butt cheek curling cringe
I’m convinced that “tank mains” who make posts with these hilariously scuffed clips are support mains in disguise trying to sabotage the argument of “support OP.”
support players be like
"you have to kill supports first 🙄"
"you have to bait cooldowns before you kill the support"
"you have to hit your shots"
and this bullshit still happens & blizzard will probably just buff them again because they're scared of longer queue times
FIXING PHARAH:
Part 2 of our fun community reworks focused on this flying abomination... there's a lot of fun things about Pharah, but she's one of (if not the most) one-dimensional hero in Overwatch history.
Slap a Mercy on her, and she's good. Without it? Well, she's nearly…

The new Flashpoint mode is SUPER risky with the current OW2 hero roster- the massive space in between points means some of the less mobile heroes are going to struggle... a LOT.
Is this a bad thing? Well, maybe not, but the adjustment period for many players may be painful.
Pro teams avoid picking Colosseo because of the RNG misery of first fight.
Average ranked players are funneled into mile-long death tunnels that make playing half the tank cast impossible.
It's time for
@PlayOverwatch
to actually do something about this map.
By major update, just a revert back to OW1, hopefully.
Don't take this as snide - it's refreshing to see devs taking risks and trying new things, just as long as they're fixed if the experiment doesn't pan out.
My only complain is this has gone for too long unaddressed.

Competitive Play 🏆
"We know the system needs a major update," he says. With the team committed to sharing their plans soon, what changes are you hoping to see implemented? 🗳️
ok, these Mei/Cass changes are, at best, super questionable stuff that deserves an experimental patch... I have no idea what about Mei screamed "hey let's add another CC mechanic." It's a really heavy new mechanic that nobody asked for, on a hero that was already balanced
My man. We’ve been through so much over the years, and it’s really not possible to put to words what it means to see what he’s become in the league. Hadi, I never doubted you, even with the misery of a winner in losing environments.

we just gonna forget that blizzard introduced a horrific visual bug in hanzo, but to my knowledge have not even addressed the ETA of when it's gonna be fixed?
hey guys it's me, wanted to let you know that i hit GM this season playing mauga. here's a picture of me in the early season t500 leaderboard. aren't i great? haha what a great accomplishment. im sure my parents are so proud of me.
Tank Rock/Paper/Scissors is largely a myth in OW2. You heard me right.
Iffy Blizzard balancing, poor understanding, and a lack of individual gameplay dynamics have created the mother of all OW2 myths, and I'm here to bust it... link in replies!
not catering to casuals doesn't solve 4 DPS
not catering to casuals doesn't solve tank queues
In ranks other than GM, it was the exception not the rule of getting a functional tank synergy (instead of the DPS player who queued for Roadhog), or somehow miraculously getting 2-2-2…
6v6 SHOULD come back.
While individual mechanics on DPS do shine brighter than ever, the cost of this is a lower skilled game that is just a deathmatch. Overwatch is supposedly a competitive game according to director takes, so making the game significantly easier doesn't make…
I guarantee you that 90% of people who don't care about males victims are... also males.
We need to do a better job of not belittling people with the "bro" culture. Bros need to lift, bros need to do things, but bros also need therapy, and bros also can be sexually assaulted.
I feel like I'm slowly "making it" as an OW2 educator, as I'm now getting messages/comments that take what I say out of context.
I have now said:
- Counters don't exist at all
- danteh was the worst tank in OWL
- never shoot tank. ever.
also I'm Plat in rank, too.
blizzard apparently fixed the 5k SR bug, added a number to the social menu, and FIXED the horrible HANZO BUG BUT DON'T PUT ANY OF THEM IN THE PATCH NOTES (that I can see). LOL
This has to be one of strangest hero change explanations we've ever received- it doesn't make any sense... BUT instead of just griping, I figured it might be fun to spitball what WOULD be good changes for Orisa to give her an identity in OW2?
I'll put a few of my ideas below...
@Flats_OW
1. increase the skill floor on brain dead DPS heroes like Bastion/Reaper
2. Tweak the tank passive to account for things like anti-nade, discord, DPS passive, and other debuffs
3. Introduce counterplay to tanks that don't have CC counterplay (Doomfist/Ball)
4. Adjust tanks…
All heroes will be able to self-heal in
#Overwatch2
🏥
Tank and Damage heroes will inherit a toned-down version of the self-heal passive. Aiming to relieve support players and empower individual agency in Season 9.
The irony is amusing.
Kephrii is a regular Ana troll, but if you call ignorant when he's playing Illari like... how she's supposed to be played in these circumstances, then you're the ignorant one. He's solo controlling an off angle with arguably the best duelist of the game.
OW2 PET PEEVES- what is something you absolutely HATE in a ranked game?
I get irrationally angry when:
1. Players don't press Q, especially with easy Ults like Nano/Bob/Kitsune
2. People focus tank when we don't have the CC/Damage to kill him (roadhog...)
what are yours?

Now that the first chunk of the Overwatch League regular season is nearly concluded, I’d like to remind everyone that we still have 0 communication when replay viewer will be publicly available again, or why it has been prohibited for content creators.
counterswapping in OW2 is only a problem when the counters are easier to play
address the skill/value floor issue in Overwatch, and we'd instantly improve the tank experience
and, no, low skill heroes are not noob-friendly or necessary. (will make a video on this soon)
Very poor changes, specifically the first two. Increasing the number of shots to ignition significantly hinders his ability to sustain/pressure vs non tank targets. It’s quite literally one of the worst possible nerfs they could have done for him. Very disappointed.
Mauga nerfs now live in
#Overwatch2
💥
Incendiary and Volatile Chainguns:
→ Chaingun damage reduced from 5 to 4.
→ The number of shots with the Incendiary Chaingun to ignite enemies increased from 10 to 15.
Cage Fight:
→ Ultimate duration reduced from 10 to 8 seconds.
OVERWATCH DPS REWORKS/BALANCE (need your help!):
Tomorrow I'm going to be live on Twitch going over reworks, buffs, nerfs, and ANY changes you'd make to some of the more... difficult to balance DPS heroes in Overwatch.
I NEED YOUR HELP, though, as this fun stream project is…
ROADHOG REWORK REVIEW:
TLDR: big flop, while Sombra felt really weak and had many QoL issues, this character just feels... the same, and in some ways even worse.
In-depth review in the replies
say what you will about this patch, but the devs being willing to take risks (and dial back the clownery) is good leadership. You can't fix fundamentally broken issues/spark interest without taking at least some minor gambles, and even though some have whiffed, some haven't.
Balance doesn't happen in a vacuum. Heroes aren't just strong individually, but as part of the greater meta.
Sigma= good because Bastion/Poke and dive weakness- he wasn't individually super strong.
Torb's struggled because he's awful in poke.
Blizzard still has much to learn.
the support passive should be a quality of life change that prevents supports from having to use their abilities on themselves/grabbing a healthpack, but it should not have such a low CD that it affects 1v1s
once again, this is what happens when you have a game that's isn't dead for 3 years or so. The population is a lot bigger, but the % breakdowns are the same.
All the Bronze/Silver/Gold/Plat players I've coached also look worse than they did in OW1- that's just how math works.
(2) the most fundamental rules of leadership is both VISION and MANAGING EXPECTATIONS: Overwatch leadership completely and utterly failed on both, with not only radio silence, but with 0 communicated vision for what OW2 was supposed to be, much less WHEN it was supposed to be
I, for one, am not surprised at some of the unfortunate leaks about OWL coaches when these coaches are public with how little sleep they get for months on end.
It's not responsible or impressive to be sleep deficient in a leadership position. Stop glorifying foolish behavior.
alright verdict is out: new sombra is absolute dog tier.
fun to play, but sombra 76 value has tanked with the hack damage nerf, and she's UNBELEIVABLY high risk for the reward on backline assassinations, not to mention literally any support shuts down virus
yo
@PlayOverwatch
can you finally admit that 5v5 is awful. There’s so many issues that could be solved by making it 6v6 again. NOBODY asked for 5v5 in the first place. Here’s reasons why 6v6 is just better: 🧵
Giving Lifeweaver more numbers isn't going to change the fundamental design flaw of horrendous downtime and lack of dynamics. He's the OPPOSITE of a dynamic hero right now, and the fact that he has 0 playmaking ability is the problem more than his hitbox size.

Crying can be a response from a normal process of healthy emotions.
We cry out of happiness, love, and empathy. Self-control is done with the intention of guiding away from EVIL or HARMFUL thought processes, but NEVER focused on suppressing healthy and truly human emotions.
@OW_SVB
Crying is tied to lack of emotional control.
Saying it's okay to cry is the same as saying it's okay to punch someone in the face when you are angry in my opinion.
I would rather control my emotions in a way that they could be used to fuel productive things like working out.
It’s morbidly amusing to watch the community go back to crucifying Hadi after last season’s cornucopia of praise. Remember that player performance is almost always a complicated and dynamic issue. Anyone paying attention knows London’s dive issues are far from one-dimensional.
good to remind myself sometimes of the absolute lowest a man can go in a competitive venture. Really nothing but negative things followed this move for me- easily the most miserable, frustrating, and disappointing time of my entire life for many reasons... 1/x
I think this strike really a culmination of all the crap T2 players/staff have dealt with for many years. This isn't just about a single match, really- it's the consistently terrible track record of support, communication, and leadership from Blizzard.

that almost goes unnoticed without the OWL replay viewer.
Leejaegon combos his boop with the Orisa Ult to send Admiral FLYING to setup a round-winning Ajax on Oasis. BEAUTIFUL set play from Boston, and agony that so many plays are invisible without the viewer.
The irony is amusing.

this ow2 match displays:
- incompetence
- insanity
- idiocy
- foolishness
- moronic behavior
- silly behavior
- bad behavior
- complete lack of initiative
- too much initiative
- confusion
- cringe
- cataclysmic catastrophe
- bad play
- even badder play
link in replies.
this is the kind of insane detail that only brilliant artists like
@cocoadisanjh
would be able to think of. This stuff is what keeps OW2 special.
And, yes, the guy I pinged IS the guy who did this!
If you're a DPS main that is a higher rank on support, this means:
- Your aggressive/mechanical playstyle better compliments the OW2 playstyle
This does NOT mean:
- Support is easier to rank up compared to other roles
The last point doesn't even make mathematical sense.
(3) Now we have a completely butchered execution, with both a messy transition into the PvP aspect (which to be fair, has still be fun!), but a complete disappointment for many facets that were promised from the get-go. You don't promise and then fail to deliver
Initial thoughts on Lifeweaver (condensed):
I feel a bleh about him. So much of his kit that it could be underwhelming (dash, heal), so much is just... bizarre (grip, passive), and some will likely be dull (ult). The fact you have to switch betwen M1 and heal is horrible, too.
