@froglifers ✅ The ponds we began with last month are filling up nicely. Works will continue elsewhere in the forest in summer 2026. You can follow along with Project Pondscape here: https://t.co/S7NJZMpY8x. This project is part of a @naturalengland funded District Level Licencing scheme.

@froglifers Through Project Pondscape, in partnership with @froglifers we are carefully reprofiling some of the Forest’s most important wildlife ponds so they hold more water for longer and creating new ponds nearby. Giving wildlife like great crested newts time to complete their lifecycles.

@froglifers 🌡️This year, many of #EppingForest’s ponds struggled after prolonged periods of drought. Sadly, it’s not a one-off, ponds also dried up in 2022. Drier summers and a falling water table leave the challenge of helping these vital habitats navigate a changing climate. 📷 N Chadwick

@froglifers 🌍This is amplified where ponds form networks across a landscape, creating a “pondscape.” Interconnected waters allow animals to move between ponds as conditions change, making the whole system more resilient. #ponds #pondscape

@savebutterflies By recording location and numbers we can better understand how they're faring and identify key breeding areas to safeguard them during our management to help ensure the continued recovery of this beautiful species. #EppingForest #Butterfleis #UKBMS50 #BrownHairstreak

@savebutterflies 🦋#Butterfly season never really ends. This week we're looking for Brown hairstreaks they've recently re-appeared in #EppingForest after a long absence. They fly high in the canopy so it's hard to detect the adults but the eggs can be seen on blackthorn branches in winter.

We're working to extend their lives with Britain's most ambitious ancient tree restoration programme. Since 2003, over 650 trees have received expert care, but this bespoke work can cost over £1,000 per tree. #ancientbeech #beech #trees #ancienttrees #eppingforest

Did you know the Forest is home to more than 80% of all the UK’s ancient beech trees? Since traditional pollarding ended in the 19th century they have grown top-heavy. Leaving them majestic, but vulnerable to storms, putting their futures in doubt.

🌳 #EppingForest cleans our air by intercepting 81.7 tonnes of harmful airborne particulates every year. But even the Forest has its limits. When nitrogen levels exceed critical thresholds, nature’s ability to recover is overwhelmed.

🌿 This #NationalTreeWeek we’re spotlighting a hidden threat to the Forest's trees: nitrogen pollution. 📊 Excess nitrogen harms plants, soils, and entire ecosystems: shifting the balance of species, weakening trees, and altering the soil chemistry. https://t.co/cGGxIpCxIc
