If business groups had their way, the lowest paid workers would now be paid $160 a week less. The FWC should ignore the fears of business groups and give those on awards and the minimum wage a decent pay rise. @GrogsGamut #OffTheCharts

My take on the latest legislation on housing affordability that passed as part of the mad rush in the Senate this week. More housing policy that will do nothing while the housing crisis gets worse. https://t.co/yYwJZ58rdn

The government’s latest housing affordability policies, “help to buy” and “build to rent” are the latest in a long line of policies from both major parties that will do nothing to ease the housing...

Today is Go Home on Time Day. Our report shows the Right to Disconnect laws have helped, but the average worker is still doing 3.6 hours of unpaid overtime each week. #auspol Read:
australiainstitute.org.au
Despite new Right to Disconnect laws coming into force earlier this year, new research reveals Australians are still working an average five weeks’ unpaid overtime each year.
How much unpaid overtime do you do? The average Aussie employee works 5 weeks per year for free. This adds up to a staggering $91 billion per year across the economy, stolen from workers in free labour. Today, go home on time. #auspol

Wages grew by 3.5% on the past year - more than CPI. But CPI doesn't include mortgages. When you include those real wages are still falling. As @daverr01 notes, an avge FT worker on $90k in 2021 is now $8,000 worse off #OffTheCharts Time to cut rates! https://t.co/AxXpzMhhMB

@DrFionaMac Workers must see a productivity dividend from the introduction of effective AI, either through increased wages or reduced hours, says Nicole McPherson. "AI is projected to make 20% efficiency improvements, which perfectly matches our demand for a 4 day work week!"

The @CntrFutureWork's @DrFionaMac is concerned that workers have hardly been mentioned in the government's development of AI 'Guardrails'. Nicole McPherson agrees and calls it "disgraceful" that workers did not have imput.

All of our panelists agree on the need for worker consultation and workplace democracy on the introduction of AI. Rebecca Fawcett: "Once a decision has been made to adopt a technology, it is too late"

@CPSUnion @FSU_Australia @DrFionaMac Rebecca Fawcett from the @CPSUnion agrees that worker oversight over AI is necessary: "If our members had oversight over the RoboDebt processes, it would not have happened in the same way." She also details the need for worker training with AI technologies.

@CPSUnion @FSU_Australia @DrFionaMac Nicole McPherson begins by outlining how AI is not new in Australian workplaces, and how the finance sector is always an early adopter of new technology. "Without human oversight, we see a risk of AI overseeing essential services like taking out a mortgage".

Whatever 🇨🇦 biz wants, it now demands 2x louder, cuz of…Trump! Goldy Hyder would restrict strikes & uncap oil sands pollution as insurance against Trump tariffs. But there's no connection between those things! Get ready 🇨🇦: Trumpism is contagious https://t.co/H0RSFfS8pv

Other countries have already had multiple rate cuts (3 or 4 in some cases). The RBA says it won't cut until its "trimmed mean" measure is "sustainably" at 2.5%, which might not happen for another year. But trimmed mean is NOT its statutory target, and Australians can't wait.

Inflation is within-target-zone and falling, yet RBA won't cut rates. Other central banks are cutting quickly, but the RBA's perverse ideological inflexibility is amplifying the pain felt by working people. Our @JimboStanford explains for @TheNewDailyAu:
thenewdaily.com.au
The RBA’s perverse commitment to high rates is increasingly at odds with the rest of the world's reality when it comes to interest rates.
