So, @RonFilipkowski, I think you have a big heart inside of you, and you're letting your anger with our federal government get the best of you. You're letting someone like Trump shift your humanity. You're forgetting that we're supposed to stand for something better.

It's very easy for Trump to point at a post like yours and say: "See? These radical Democrats want your children to be swept away in a flood. They hate you. They enjoy your suffering.". It doesn't matter if it's unfair or inaccurate. For Trump, neither of those things matter.

But Trump does love an opportunity. He loves leveraging cynicism and hatred for his own personal gain. And when he see someone like you--who should know better--mocking the devastation in Texas, it's very easy for him to cynically exploit that.

Donald Trump could not care less about the flooding in Central Texas. He couldn't care less that 27 girls were swept away this week because they had the horrible misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He doesn't care about that.

I am proud to be from Texas. I am proud of every person living there who gets up every day and looks out not only for their neighbor but people they don't know. You think that this is some sort of "gotcha" for Trump, who doesn't give a shit who's affected by his policies.

If a natural disaster strikes New York, are 42% of the fatalities and property damage justified? Which victims are we allowed to smugly look down upon? Which deaths are we allowed to mock as "fuck around, find out"? Tell us what the threshold is for performative cruelty.

But here's the flip side of all this: how do you decide who gets to suffer and who gets a pass in states that did go for VP Harris?. 44% of Illinois residents voted for Trump. 42% of New York residents did. 40% of California. 47% of Virginia. 42% of Oregon. And so on.
