Defending climate science. Optimistic, but realistic. Not a climate scientist, but deeply in awe of those who are. Renewable energy supporter. Born @ 317 ppm.

The UK, a much larger country has only got 19GW of solar. Well done, NL.
pv-magazine.com
The Netherlands installed 4.32 GW of solar capacity in 2024, bringing its cumulative total to 28.62 GW by year-end, according to official data.

We should all be watching the results of CfD7, which will probably be published no later than next Feb. This is the one that could get the UK a 95% decarbonised grid by 2030 if it works well.

This only affects coal and oil. It needs to be extended to tax fossil gas as well.

Of course the US objects to any meaningful action on plastics because they are owned by the fossil fuel industry. We should just leave them to stew in their own plastic mess and ban all new plastic products in the UK and Europe.

Astonishing to see that green ammonia is only 15% more expensive than grey ammonia. It will not be long before it is simply cheaper and it will rapidly displace another use of fossil gas. Excellent.
pv-magazine.com
Solar Energy Corp of India (SECI) has discovered a new record-low green ammonia price of INR 51.8 ($0.59)/kg, or around $591.25 per metric ton, in its latest auction. The winning bid was placed by...

Only now that the toxic Tories are out of power are the brakes being removed from solar (and of course, onshore wind). The news in this article is good, but we need much more solar capacity, quickly.
pv-magazine.com
Provisional data finds United Kingdom on course to add more than 1 GW in 2025 with revisions likely to show greater capacity as more plants are recorded. However, the pace of deployment must accele...

Battery storage means more renewable penetration, less curtailment and therefore lower prices - good news for everyone.

We badly need some real scientists to push back on the fossil fuel-funded lies coming from the EPA and other US government departments. Here's an explainer from @hausfath about how his work has been misrepresented.

We need to see how the plan to cope with seabirds will actually work. Assuming it goes ahead, it's a vast wind farm and we do need much more wind, together with more transmission from Scotland to England.
bbc.co.uk
Up to 307 turbines will be built in the project despite concerns about the impact on seabirds.

Good news, but I would never count biomass as renewable. Even so, it is clear that gas is on the decline and that will accelerate as more wind and solar come on line.
independent.co.uk
Official figures show wind, solar, hydro and biomass generated 50.4% of UK power last year.
