Participants with significant exposure to the dust and air pollution **42x** more likely to have early onset dementia. We really do undervalue clean air… https://t.co/4Pov1qBave

It sounds like a boring topic, but concrete is one of the most revolutionary inventions in history. For example, concrete now weighs more than everything else humans have ever made combined. So here's the story of how it has changed the world, for better and for worse...

The UK’s runaway growth. 🧵🪡 1 of 2 Wow this chart from the FT. Look at the UK’s rapid ascent after 2010, how we rise and rise and rise, while the others slip down and down.

With Detroit seeing a population and economic rebound, it's worth exploring what exactly caused the city to fall so hard — because there are REALLY important lessons for a lot of other U.S. cities, some of which are making similar mistakes to Detroit and not realizing it.

This is a big freaking deal! For first time SINCE 1957, Detroit has grown in population!! This makes it the 26th (up from 29th) most populous city on the US now! I don’t think people realize how impossible this seemed literally only 10 years ago.

Citicorp Center was built in 1977. Located in NY, it was the world's 7th tallest building but had a big structural flaw: a very strong storm wind could knock it over. The expert architects had no idea, until an anonymous Princeton undergrad cold called them. Here’s the story🧵

“The upfront cost of £11.8bn to the state of building 90,000 social homes would be repaid within 11 years through savings on public services and extra tax revenue… Meanwhile an overreliance on private development has led to too few homes being built” FT
