When I joined AWS, I changed my note taking app to a markdown editor (code-server, VScode, or nvim) and a directory structure with files per meeting. It’s grepable, easy to enrich, and I sync work notes with internal git servers.
It’s the best note taking app I’ve ever used.
I'm going to say this straight up. It's fucking rude to ignore your co-workers timezones. I don't schedule meetings at 9 AM my time for west coast people. Why you booking shit after 5 PM for east coast people?
"After a detailed review, I'm pleased to inform you that we've approved a billing adjustment of $2,650.60 USD for usage charges on your June 2020 bill, which has been applied as a refund to your credit card."
Thank you,

To folks using
@Cloudflare
’s free tier:
@Netlify
does have a great free tier CDN and DNS solution. But, Netlify’s bread and butter is static sites. I’ll be moving everything I can there, if
@Cloudflare
doesn’t take action against the folks targeting
@keffals
ASAP.
ICYMI: Due to health concerns DevOps’ish is coming to an abrupt end. My blood pressure has been out of control for months. My stroke and heart attack risk are HIGH. “Lifestyle changes.” This is a big lever; I’m pulling it.
DevOps'ish 292: Not like this
Since it's official and out in the open. I'm stepping down from my role at Red Hat. I'll be at KubeCon as a Red Hatter. Then some time off and new jobby-job.

Joining Ansible Team at Red Hat - tl;dr “It is with great pleasure that I announce I am joining the Ansible team at Red Hat as Principal Product Marketing Manager.”
In The Beginning… In 1998, I was working at a dial-up ISP in Hickory, NC. We were he…
"Certainly folks are running up to date software."
Nope. They aren't and that's a terrible assumption. Assume people get things working then don't touch it again, ever.
Let me go ahead and squash this before people draw the poorest of conclusions...
I'm not leaving Red Hat because of the vaccine mandate. "Give me all the vaccines and boosters too!"
If you think that's why I'm leaving, unfollow me.
I started my weight loss journey last year when I saw myself on video and wasn’t happy with what I was seeing (280+ lbs). Just weighed in under 230 lbs. I’ve lost over fifty pounds through portion control and walking. I’m in constant pain, if I can do it, you sure as hell can.
"We are contacting you because we have learned that two participants here at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2022 have tested positive for COVID-19 while onsite."
CNCF didn't want to do masks. Thank you to everyone who pushed back. I appreciate each and every one of you.
First day in newest role at AWS: Still a Developer Advocate but am on the
@AWSOpen
team now helping folks be better at all the open source things.

Surgery did not go well.
Anesthesia didn’t work AT ALL. We proceeded anyway.
I’m a wreck right now. Pain meds are barely doing anything. I’m in so much pain right now.
I’m going to give it a few hours before calling tomorrow off.
I see Kubernetes as an opportunity for Ops folks to reach across the DevOps divides and help Devs understand what concepts Ops has wrangled with everyday around DNS, networking, infrastructure, etc. Kubernetes is a tool that could improve collaboration along logical boundaries.
A hardy fuck you to anyone who berates people in any profession for taking a break to do literally anything else they want to do with their time. Working in open source is a career people often regret when they take time off. Stop acting like this. This IS the hill I will die on.
I cried really hard. It would mean the world to me if you watched
@juliaferraioli
talk about what she lives with every second of everyday. I have peripheral nerve damage. I cannot even fathom what Julia is dealing with (and is successful in spite of it).
Today is my last day on the EKS team. I'm heading over to work on a new project that I'm VERY excited about
I'll be working on an open source tool I had the idea for and shelved because I couldn't support by myself.
No job title change. Just not directly focused on

Update: I know this is happening. I feel like I’ve run through this in my head enough times over the past 24 hours. I’m not ready for the grief, the sadness, and the hollowness our family will carry for generations.
My daughter just informed me she likely has contracted COVID-19. My apologies but, I'm going to forgo my usual introduction in the newsletter this week.
The first issue of EKS News is out now! From chaos engineering on EKS to IPv6 to progressive delivery; there's a little something for everyone. Give it a read and subscribe today!

My fellow Red Hatters, Jason Dobies and Joshua Wood, worked really hard to write this book about

Operators. Page fifty-six (56) is where the coverage of my favorite Kubernetes Operators starts:

What do folks want out of their jobs in tech? Here’s my $0.02:
Career growth without having to change jobs.
Work with humans that aren’t arrogant jerks.
Utilize the wide skill set folks have today.
Meaningful work that gives back to open source in a genuine manner.

The

How one VM image, a potential bug, and a $2700 AWS bill made for a 4th of July weekend I’ll never forget.

I’m putting my foot down. If a state’s policies makes my friends uncomfortable, I’m not going to submit to speak in that state. Not even virtually. Period.
Event organizers: I know others are silently doing this. I see no need to hide this.
Yes, this is my opinion/view.
Friendly reminder: 9/11 is hard for people for different reasons. I've had problems the past 3 years with 9/11 and events around it in my life. I'm taking the day off tomorrow. No shame in doing what's best for your health. Companies should do more here.

No one slept good last night. She wants to be near one of us because she knows we’re sad. She’s been our best dog friend for a long time. Saying goodbye will be very hard.
Never in my life did I think I’d be reading at a Catholic funeral mass.
I said her name once (her name makes me cry often).
One part was hard, but got through it; no issue.
I’ve cried a lot the past few weeks.
Today though it finally felt therapeutic.
RIP Lucy.
I miss you.
