My last act as the 2024 @ASMicrobiology Fenwick Fellow for the Advancement of Civic Science was a talk on civic science at ASM Microbe 2025. Hopefully this is a good primer for those of us worried about the future of science and want to get involved!

Relevant now maybe more than ever--there's no one trick to getting science advocacy right! You've really got to know your audience and know how to connect with what's important to them. Facts and stats alone are never going to be enough.
ASM's 2024 Fenwick Fellow Chris Dade discusses his pathway to science advocacy, and gives key guidance on advocating for science and informing science policy:

"Some 65 members of Congress from both parties have come together to propose a common-sense fix [for the broken #Antibiotics market]," former Vermont governor Howard Dean writes. "It’s called the #PASTEURAct."

There have been no new classes of antibiotics brought to patients since 1984. The Pasteur Act can fix that.
