So… It transpires that sand was removed from Hataitai beach when the new retaining wall was installed by WCC. It now needs to be returned. Shame on the officers who were economical with the truth here or simply not up to the job of monitoring the contract. Apologies awaited.

4/. I can only hope that NZTA and @cjsbishop will entertain alternative proposals, as I’m 100% sure that the current NZTA proposals are not fit for purpose.

3/. I’ll follow up with a CAD plan in the New Year. I’ve also submitted CAD plans for Ruahine Street. My design here solves the problem of additional traffic on Moxham Avenue and other local roads /4

2/. The NZTA proposals for the Basin Reserve are over-blown and poorly thought out. I’ve developed what I believe to be a better alternative and have submitted this as a hand drawn scale plan on an aerial photo. I didn’t have time or resources to CAD it. /3

Just met the deadline of midnight last night to submit my 16 page submission and several plans on NZTA’s Wellington State Highway “improvements”. While there is some positive stuff in the NZTA proposals, there’s also a massive number of very serious shortcomings. ./2

And unfortunate downside of micro mobility. It’s 4:30 pm. These two bikes have laid across the footpath since 11 pm last night.

@tomdom76 We need a fit-for purpose walking & cycling route under Mt Vic. NZTA still seems to think that cyclists and pedestrians can easily co-exist on a narrow shared pathway. Here's an alternative I sketched a while ago.

@tomdom76 Don't the me wrong: there are lots of faults with the current NZTA designs. I have some better plans, but any roading improvements are likely to be opposed by some inner-city folk who seem to believe that cities revolve around coffee bars and that goods magically arrive in shops.

@tomdom76 Living in Hataitai, I have, for decades, been calling for improved walking & cycling facilities thru Mt Vic. This won't happen on its own but the inner-city-based opponents of roading improvements don't seem interested in the needs of commuters from the 'burbs.

@tomdom76 And yes, LGWM, which was making headway when Justin Lester & I were on the governance group, prioritised a single-spine MRT/LRT route but also recognized that a second Mt Vic tunnel, improvements to the Basin, and eventually a trenched route through Te Aro would all be required.

@tomdom76 4/ Opponents of extra road capacity to match population & economic growth are fond of saying that extra roads induce extra traffic, but the corollary isn't apparently true. Congestion is very poor at reducing traffic volumes, and instead brings noise, air pollution and severance.

@tomdom76 3/ Walking, cycling and north-south bus routes would've all been enhanced. Instead we have the surface level Karo Drive and the Te Aro-splitting traffic sewer that is Vivian Street, soon to become 3 lanes. 4/

2/ @tomdom76 Had the Greens not opposed the proposed Tunnel Link route through Te Aro in the mid 1990s (and presumably again in the 2000s but I don't know the details as I was living overseas), Wellington would've had a trenched route now, paid for by Govt. ..3/

NEVER change your tire in a live traffic lane. Keep driving slowly until there is a safe place to pull right off the road. Your life is worth more than a tire.
