Of the more than 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients, 147 National Guardsmen have received the Medal since 1898. Famous Medal of Honor recipients who were in the Guard include pioneering pilot Charles A. Lindbergh and President Theodore Roosevelt.
On National Medal of Honor Day, we honor the more than 3,500 recipients who distinguished themselves “through conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.”
