Team Shoebills in Space consisted of (from left to right) Max Maeder, Rahul Hathwar, Brennen Hill, and Jeremy Kintana. In their project, they developed an interactive 3D starfield based on 5500 exoplanets and half a million stars from NASA and ESA databases.

a tiny convolutional neural network and the expensive transmission only when it looked like a seismic event was about to happen. This hardware-software combination allowed us to stay size and power efficient while still achieving up to 85% accuracy, and the process of developing.

On Earth, this is a standard case of large-scale machine learning, but on the Moon or on Mars, we had to think about the challenges of limited power, communication, and data. In our project, FSTARs, we used highly efficient hardware-level signal processing on an FPGA to trigger.
