During the Nike TOC last weekend, Cesar Chavez senior guard Lex Clontz surpassed Pablo Rivas as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,511 points.

Man what a special night for our guys! Doubled the win total from a season ago, 3-0 in the region after 0-5 last year.. playing for the region championship next week! The fight they showed tonight, beating another East Valley school at their homecoming was special #ChavezMade 😈
FINAL: Cesar Chavez 41, Mesa 40. Chavez took the lead on the Mason Penrod keeper with 48 seconds left then Mesa drove the ball inside the Chavez 25 before losing a fumble to seal it. Heck of a game.

Great game plan by Cesar Chavez coach Chandler Hovik, whose team had Chandler on the ropes, cutting score to 20-18 with 3 minutes left on a 95-yard scoring drive. A missed 2-point conversion or it would have been tied. Chandler went on to win 27-18. Chavez's D-line had 8 sacks
