me: you shouldn’t report someone for shoplifting essentials like food or nappies, and the greater injustice is a system which criminalises the poor and protects the wealth of the rich.
what this dude heard:
@CarverEmily
I’ve worked at supermarkets and it’s unspoken policy not to worry unless it’s a luxury brand usually.
I’m sure smaller shops have to be more strict but even they will turn a blind eye to people in need vs people just doing it for the hell of it
@CarverEmily
I'd like to think that if I ran a shop, my anger at mothers stealing baby formula would be aimed at the people who created a situation where that was necessary. Call it a perk of not having my head stuffed up my arse.
You've massively grassed yourself up here.
@CarverEmily
I agree, a small independent shop owner would be very annoyed and financially harmed by having their stock stolen.
So I’m sure, like me, you’d recommend those who need to shoplift stick to larger, corporate owned shops, who can more easily absorb the shrinkage.
@CarverEmily
I’d be furious if I ran a shop, that my customer pool is being reduced by an inept government that makes its citizens so impoverished they can’t afford to buy my goods, even though I’ve gone to the effort to stock my shop with all the necessary items my customers clearly need.
@CarverEmily
"if your class position was completely different you would not have class solidarity with the working class anymore" yeah probably not, genius.
