The US Navy is literally canceling orders for submarines because we don't have the shipyards and naval industries to meet the demands for them. Better pray we don't need to fight a naval war in the Pacific against a major power any time soon.
Need to build/buy more not less subs to grow the industrial base…
Today’s news reports that DoD/Navy is ratcheting back its pace of submarine procurement since suppliers can’t meet the demand. This will not fix the problem … shipbuilders need to invest more in capacity.…

Obviously we can improve our quarterly performance by 0.25% by outsourcing production to Chinese manufacturing partners!
We're a service economy! Free trade!
@CarolinaLion2
Another serious concern is that we will be unable to replace ships and subs sunk in a war with Russia or China, at least not fast enough to make a difference.
@CarolinaLion2
Need to "build more subs" to build the industrial base. Maybe not for this issue but generally it's the other way around. The elites sabotaged the industrial base over decades and now we can't build or maintain an effective military.
@CarolinaLion2
Didn't we piss in France's cheerios and make sure they wouldn't build submarines for our angloid allies—so that we could?
And we can't?
Lol.
@CarolinaLion2
DEI, the competency gap, the supply chain of components and materials are all self-reinforcing obstacles even if capacity had been available.
There are no political solutions.
@CarolinaLion2
Lot of problems. USA doesn’t have the industrial capacity to build these platforms very fast. And recruiting & retention doesn’t support their fielding. And then there’s the money, of course. To say nothing of GWOT exhausting the public support for getting tangled in new wars.
