We invite you to LOOK. The FIELD GUIDE Visual Journal is 70+ pages of beautiful photo stories and illustrations by artists exploring their surroundings: the colors on a morning walk, the beauty of a moonlit sky, the flow of water to the ocean, and the sounds of a busy street.

I am at a loss for words. My incredible editor @kitrachlis will have difficulty believing this. When I find them, I have many people to thank, including the mighty teams at @CalSunday + @pulitzercenter, + the asylum-seekers who bravely shared their journey and lives with me.

We created The California Sunday Magazine to tell intimate stories about people’s lives that explore and explain important issues. @nadjadrost’s feature, and the work of editor @kitrachlis, represents the very best of that tradition. Read the story →

Seven years after his conviction, nearly one year after the pardon, the case Army Lt. Clint Lorance — and the president’s decision to pardon him — continue to divide people sharply.

“I think he knows he made a mistake,” former Captain Patrick Swanson says. “I think he gave an order to shoot absent positive identification. I think it’s as simple as that.” @natepenn on the case of Clint Lorance, the army lieutenant pardoned by Trump.

Last fall, Trump pardoned Army Lt. Clint Lorance, who was serving a 20-year sentence for ordering the murder of two Afghan civilians. To Lorance’s defenders, the act was long overdue. To the men who served under him, it was a gross miscarriage of justice. https://t.co/mxWc9HnF52

In 2017 I wrote a story for @CalSunday about Los Jornaleros del Norte @NDLON, which we then brought to life on stage for @PopUpMag. I am thrilled it will take on a new life on 9/23 in a short film featuring the band + their story delivered by @LaMarisoul

I share this story b/c 1) it's well written & fascinating but 2) it's a reminder that, for all the headlines about Trump attacking our elections & possible vote-by-mail issues, there are 100,000s of people working day and night to protect the election and ensure your vote counts.
“Our vision is to restore confidence in the electoral process,” Runbeck told me when I visited the factory in late June. “The reason we’re talking to you is to help the public understand that it’s secure.” Smart @CalSunday story on the biz of vote-by-mail
