Again... The problem with the "Felon vs. Prosecutor" language is it gives the thumbs up to the discrimination faced by the MILLIONS of people with a felony conviction in this country (including me) Do better, Dems!

HALF of the people sentenced to Death by Incarceration in PA were emerging adults (18-25). Research shows developmental similarities with people under 18, which reduces their culpability. The state must offer parole review to these individuals. https://t.co/QqXBkhz3fk

Despite reforms that reduce the use of juvenile life without parole sentences, thousands of youth and emerging adults have been left behind.

From a lack of AC to limited water access, incarcerated people don't get a break from sweltering conditions. The effects of climate change are getting worse & more deadly, and the carceral system is not equipped to handle it.
Monday was recorded as the hottest day ever globally, beating a record set the day before, as countries around the world from Japan to Bolivia to the United States continue to feel the heat.

This list of last words of all of the folks killed by police is gutting
1. Sonya Massey - "I rebuke you in the name of Jesus." 2. George Floyd - "I can't breathe." 3. Eric Garner - "I can't breathe." 4. Michael Brown - "I don't have a gun. Stop shooting." 5. Philando Castile - "I wasn't reaching for it." 6. Breonna Taylor - "Why did you shoot me?" 7.

Important paper that finds that--on average--the police protests had 2020 had little effect on police staffing levels, a 1% reduction.
π’New Paperπ’ After the summer of 2020, news outlets widely reported that cops were quitting in droves and that George Floyd-related activism was a main cause. But we donβt know what really happened without national data. [1]

Every shooting is unacceptable, but let's please keep it in my perspective... Gun violence is WAY down.

Millions of people across the US face discrimination because of a felony conviction β making it harder to secure stable employment, housing, healthcare, and care for children. It's time to end employment discrimination against people with criminal records.

60% of women in jails under local control have not been convicted of a crime and are awaiting trial. Is tearing legally innocent women away from their families really helping anyone?

This 4th of July, remember that the U.S. cannot be the "land of the free" with 20% of the world's prison population and 1.2 million people who are not protected from slavery under the 13th Amendment. Take action in the spirit of freedom at https://t.co/a4CdSe3YWz.

Did you know that slavery is still legal? The Thirteenth Amendment included an insidious exception, it's time we #EndTheException. Join the movement to pass the Abolition Amendment.

A grim reminder this 4th of July: The US has the highest incarceration rate of any independent democracy on Earth, making it a leader in mass incarceration. Far too many people are locked up in the βland of the free.β
