Column: The GAA has at least admitted now that GAAGO is purely a money making scheme. But with further heavy storms forecast in a month's time, one big question remains: In a world of dodgy boxes, can it ever actually make enough money to pay its way?

Gary Lineker had really gone up in my estimation until this. The way he takes the sweet out, unwrapped, sneaks it in, doesn't ask either of the lads if they want one. So polished, he's clearly done this many times before. Pocket sweet eaters are the worst of people @GaryLineker

Just received a lovely call from Ciaran McAleer's father Neil and thought this was worth sharing again. It's Ciaran, who suffers from brittle bone disease, leading out the Tyrone team at Healy Park last year. It's just an outstanding sight to see the joy and pride on his face

So many All-Ireland finals are about systems and tactics and fear of losing. Today was about David Clifford and Shane Walsh, one-on-one with their men, ripping up the hallowed turf. Seventeen points between them. Seven frees, two marks, a 45' and seven from play. An exhibition

Of all the reasons to have wanted Mayo to win an All-Ireland, Lee Keegan was right at the top. But would the medal change much? Men have won All-Irelands that weren't a fraction of the player. Keegan turned up when he was needed. That's a fine legacy

Random idea. Imagine the GAA rotated Croke Park to counties every year to host adult club finals. 1 or 2 counties a year. Snr, int, jnr football, hurling, camogie. How class would that be for clubs that would never get close to playing in it through All-Irelands. Some incentive

Vinny Corey called Conor McManus the greatest clutch player in Monaghan's history. I make it of his 9-240 in championship football, 1-43 (18%) of it has been scored after the 60th minute. Of that, 1-14 has been from play (36%). Put all the league games on top of that. Leadership.

Kilmacud Crokes have played eight championship games in Croke Park in the last three years. No reason why Glen should be asked to go there any more than Kilmacud should be asked to come to Armagh. A provincial venue would add so much to what should be a firecracker

Aside from the other allegations, the idea that BBC staff were planted in the audience for Stephen Nolan's TV show and that rows were manufactured is really damning too. Wrote this three years ago about how brutally divisive his TV and radio shows are

Column: The GAA more than pays its way in society. The narrative that they're standing with a begging bowl for Casement Park is deeply unfair. Since Ireland was partitioned, nationalists have had the raw deal on public funding. £100m? It's barely a start

Strange statement from Waterford. If they don't want to play then don't play. But throwing 'Northern Ireland' at it as though it's a foreign country is totally unnecessary. And Portglenone is nowhere near Belfast. They're 45 minutes apart

Ticket prices for National Leagues increase from €15 last year to €18 in 2023. Revenues from last year's leagues were higher than in 2019. In 2019, leagues brought in €3.5m, cost €1.3m to run. They'll no doubt say costs have gone up. Times are hard enough. No need.

Not having a back door is shit for Clare and Sligo and everyone else in the middle tier. But remember the reason there is none. Giving clubs a proper window for championships is far more important than 50 back-door games that won't change a thing in terms of who wins it #GAA

Dessie Farrell's backroom team of 28. There has to be some form of regulation placed on all this. Some counties can barely afford to carry 28 players 😂

Mad stuff Ted. Lamh Dhearg and Portglenone 9-9 on free kicks after their replay finished level AET, Antrim chairman stepped in and both clubs agreed another replay at the weekend. 3,500 people watching it live at the end - more than watch All-Irelands on Sky! 😂

Wow. Jack McCarron, as he did last year, saves Monaghan again. Dublin are relegated to Division Two. Monaghan will start 2023 as with second-longest unbroken run in Division One behind Kerry. What a remarkable result, what a remarkable game, what a remarkable day's football

By the end of this year, Gearoid Hegarty will be 27. Tom Morrisey, Aaron Gillane, Sean Finn and Cian Lynch will be 25. Seamus Flanagan will turn 24 and Kyle Hayes will be 23. It could be a while before they stop winning All-Irelands

My God. Asked a simple question about the controversy over free-to-air games, GAA president Larry McCarthy literally walks away from the microphone and shakes his head. As strategies go for dealing with tough issues, that's just about the worst you could imagine.

Ruairi Canavan's dummy amassing just the 450,000 likes on ESPN's TikTok account. Has there been a more viral GAA moment in history? We'll have to forgive @espn for the rugby hashtag 😬

Since the tail end of 2013, Rory Beggan has started 123 consecutive games for Monaghan. 52 championship games. 71 league games. One injury-time substitution. One black card. All 8,600+ minutes otherwise. Incredible run. Good luck to him with the NFL gig. He's done his bit 💪🙌
