Are people shouting down Riley Gaines completely blind to the fact that a MAN rose from

when he left the men’s swim team and joined the women’s swim team?
Pardon my anger here, but who the fuck would think this is fair?

Let’s put this out there:
No one wants trans people to not exist. No one hates them.
The argument is about acknowledging biologically-grounded differences between the sexes, keeping women safe, keeping sports fair, and protecting kids.
Why is that so hard to understand?
Received another one of those ‘my pronouns are_______’ email signatures from a publishing person today, so I modified my own signature for the purpose of responding.
Is that wrong?
I’ve reached the point where I refuse to even use the label ‘transwoman.’
From here on, it’s ‘man’—sans prefix, sans qualifier.
I didn’t start out this way. I was pushed here, one dick in a woman’s sport / prison / dating site / toilet at a time.
I’m pushing back.
We authors who speak out against gender ideology are quietly pushed aside. We’re unfollowed, not reviewed, not invited to literary events, not asked to write articles.
This is done so quietly that no one knows it’s happening.
Well, I’m weary of no one knowing it’s happening.
Children are questioning their ‘gender’ because adults are teaching them to question it.
That is all.
“The secretary is working closely […] to support schools in relation to children who are questioning their gender”
A few answers to an excellent question:
@Riley_Gaines_

Hope all you want, dearie. That book about women being able to speak only 100 words a day was about women being able to speak only 100 words a day.
Women.
Not men under the impression they are women.
Go write your own goddamned dystopian novel. You can call it COX.

This is not stunning or brave
This is not deserving of love and respect

Why the fuck are 80+ year-old authors with absolutely zero career worries not supporting younger writers who stand up for women & children?
I mean, if you don’t want to be involved, then don’t. But don’t make a statement & then cave to threats.
Currently watching the House of Lords debate with respect to Amendment 97ZA. Never in my life did I think there had to be a debate about whether to put male prisoners in with female prisoners. Never.

Hi guys! Guess what?
You’re not women
You can’t become women
You can’t breastfeed
You can’t be pregnant
You can’t be lesbians
You can’t be mommies
You don’t have vaginas
You can’t (fairly) play women’s sports
You can’t alter reality
None of this makes you invisible.
Not one bloke on the women’s teams, but FIVE of them.
Not one benched female athlete, but FIVE benched female athletes.
Y’all angry yet?
#SaveWomensSports
If anyone still thinks this trans stuff isn’t benefiting men and throwing women under a bus, try finding a woman who says she’s a man in a position of authority or in the headlines.
All I see are men. 🧵
I’m giving serious thought to publicly calling out those who thought turning a lesbian character into a man-in-woman-costume for a screen adaptation of my novel was an okay thing to do. 😡
FYI, every single one is a woman:

Producer
Director
Screenwriter

Keep it up, fellas. The more women’s prizes you win and the more women’s spaces you invade, the more the general public will see you for what you are:
Men in women’s clothing
Where are all the US-based men and women criticizing gender ideology? I feel like this entire battle is being fought on one side of the pond.
Come on, Yanks!
Two tiny linguistic things we can do to slow the madness:
1. Never refer to HRT in cases where previously present hormones are not being replaced
2. Stop using ‘transwomen’ altogether. It implies the existence of a subset of women that doesn’t actually exist
Language matters.
Since I’ve opened up the Pandora’s Box (otherwise known as my mouth), here are a few joys of womanhood that no bloke will ever experience, no matter how he self-identifies.
Okie dokie!
I’ve been blocked by a…

Twitter lovelies:
What would you do if an adaptation of your novel took your lesbian character with a wife and turned her into a trans identified male with a wife?
Asking for a supremely pissed-off friend.
@FLOTUS
Dear
@FLOTUS
,
Please explain to me how you can address young girls in a speech, tell them they can be anything they want to be, and subsequently hand over an award for ‘International Woman of Courage’ to a man.
I would really like to understand this.
Can some rational person explain to me how any of the following is hateful?
Keeping women’s sports for women
Standing against medicalization / surgery for minors
Wanting prisons to be single-sex
Being agains coerced speech
Because I’d really love to know.
We might sound vitriolic at times, but we don’t hate. We’re just tired.
We’re tired of seeing friends blacklisted, tired of being told which words to use, tired of men winning women’s sports contests, tired of men in women’s prisons, tired of kids being sterilized & mutilated.
If the Macy Gray stage trial (oops, I mean ‘interview’) on the Today Show tells us anything, it’s this:
The tide has not yet turned in the States. Anyone speaking up for women will be summarily lumped into the category of Ultra-Right-Wing-Bigot.
We have a long way to go.
Well, I don’t know when this happened, but I just got a little bit teary-eyed.
Yes. I still stand with
@jk_rowling
(Excuses self for a wee bit to search for Kleenex)
A gentle reminder:
If you feel the need to put pronouns in your email signature, please don’t be too upset if I feel the need to mock pronouns in my email signature.
(I’m long past silent acceptance of this shit)
To make it easier to exclude trans lesbians from lesbian support groups.
To make it easier to exclude trans women from women’s book clubs
To make it easier to exclude trans women from women only shortlists
I could write an entire book about how the English language has been abused for the sake of accommodating an ideology.
Seriously — every single article I’ve read manipulates language on transgenderness to obfuscate reality.
Every single one.
Language matters.
Sure, we can call out

Sec. Blinken, please start reading the room.

A reminder, Americans:
You, too, can write your president to complain about the proposed rule changes to Title IX and the (many) problems associated with allowing men to pretend they’re women.
And, you, too, can receive a lame-ass letter in reponse:
It’s funny, Jennifer, many of us non-Republican women are disgusted by the men winning Women of the Year awards and taking first place in women’s athletic competitions.
Don’t paint this as a ‘right wing’ problem. And don’t pretend the TQIA2S+ has anything to do with the LGB.
I'm disgusted by the anti-trans & anti-drag attacks by extreme Republican politicians.
This kind of hate-fueled disinformation endangers the lives & well-being of LGBTQ+ people in communities all across the country, and it must be called out by all of us.
Can anyone imagine the outrage if primary school teachers converted their students to a different religion behind parents’ backs?
Oh, wait. Of course we can. It’s happening now.
@AskATranswidow
@Protect__women
I’m terrified as well.
Because there’s something terrifying about a grown man elevating his infiltration of a ladies’ room to something on a par with parachuting out of a plane onto a beach in Normandy.
And…BOOM.
I’ve now quote-tweeted every Democrat member of the House of Representatives who had something to say about H.R. 734 (Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act).
They’re all in my timeline. And there are some interesting patterns I’ll be discussing soon.
@ripcurl
So there’s this brand called Bud Light. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
If not, you could always go with the Sports Illustrated/

@egalecanada
@Hersheys
Oh, bless. We women would be sorry you’re disgusted if we weren’t busy being furious about
@Hersheys
spotlighting a man pretending to be woman for an International Women’s Day campaign.
Now I’ve seen it all:
Man who referred to
@HJoyceGender
as a ‘numpty’ informs us that the correct spelling is ‘trans woman,’ not ‘transwoman.’
I predict a new category of hate crime for not getting the space right. 😂
Read the room,
@NYMag
. I’m sure some of your staff are still capable of simple number-work even if they can no longer tell the difference between a man and a woman.
Also, how’s that reply-blocking working for you so far—I guess you prefer quote tweets? 😊

I don’t care whether you’re a movie star, a senator, a journalist, or anyone else with the power to get me kicked off Twitter.
If you’re a man, you’re not a woman, & you will never be a woman. I won’t call you a woman to make you feel good. I won’t use your silly pronouns. Ever.
@ryancbeard
We’ve all seen the videos. We’ve been seeing them for months, if not years. Marsh repeatedly encourages children to go ‘no contact’ with their parents and to confide in him.
Which part of ‘something wrong with that’ do you not understand?
No mention of the women forced to stay in prisons with men & at greater risk of assault/abuse.
“They are often forced to stay in prisons according to their assigned sex at birth […] This puts them at greater risk of assault, discrimination & abuse”
A long-time writer pal unfollowed me (likely because of my stance on women-only sports & spaces).
Writers, I get the pressure y’all are under. Maybe you believe in the new faith, maybe not (but are afraid to speak). In any case, it’s affecting our work & will continue to do so.
@HopeGiselle
Prefixes, descriptors, and qualifiers such as ‘cis,’ ‘biological,’ and ‘real’ in front of the word ‘woman’ imply that I belong to some subset of women while certain men belong to another subset.
I’m not having it. Full stop.
I also support Riley.
Political tribes (on either side of the aisle) not so much.
Criticizing a movement that invades women’s spaces, harms children, allows a man to be ‘Woman of the Year,’ thinks men competing against women is perfectly fair, and refers to me as a…
Think about those pronouns in your bio…
When the next woman is raped by a man in a woman’s prison
When the next woman or girl loses an athletic scholarship
When the next teenage girl is sterilized
When the next Woman of the Year is a man in a dress
You know who you are.
So “Kiki Heatwave Queer Club Night” is okay, but
@Glinner
needs to be gagged.
Because he knows what a woman is and isn’t afraid to say it.
Anyone else as tired of this as I am?
A man will never, ever, know the pain of a miscarriage. He will never find himself on a gurney in a Middle Eastern hospital begging for morphine and being told to stop crying by the ER doctor on duty.
Quote from Thomas:
“[The women are] like, ‘Oh, we respect Lia, as a woman, as a trans woman or whatever, we respect her identity, we just don’t think it’s fair…You can’t really have that sort of half-support.”
Oh, okay. I’ll go whole-hog:
I don’t respect him. Full stop.
Good for

Navratilova BURYING Lia Thomas' incredibly insulting comments that people who don't want men playing women's sports are "transphobes."
🚨 Bad Word Alert! 🚨
I am so fucking tired of seeing mediocre men stealing the podium in women’s athletics, politicians saying women can have a penis, & the public bending over backwards to accommodate a screwed up men in the name of kindness.
Bigot, you say? Fuck off. 😡
When are people going to start holding politicians accountable for willful misrepresentation of fact?
Remember this from a few months back? Remember
@JeffMBourne
‘s attitude when Riley Gaines testified?
Call them on the lies.
This morning I testified against legislation that would have prevented Virginia's transgender kids from playing in school sports.
We have to make sure that ALL of our kids know that they belong.
Your regular reminder that there are no male lesbians.
If I’d said this in 1985, I would have been laughed out of the room. Almost 40 years later, I’ll get put on a blacklist.
It’s

so here I am! We are no longer in the shadows thanks to all the brave campaigners past and present who stepped forward to fight for us. And. While I’m here. Trans women can be lesbians too. It shouldn’t need to be said every day but it seems it does.
Man:
“Elite sport is over for me because you won’t let me compete with the women.”
Woman:
“Elite sport is over for me because I lost to a man.”
Only one of them deserves sympathy.

Another excellent (and necessary) read, this time by
@JeanHatchet
“If a man seeks to humiliate a woman he encounters, nothing is easier than reducing her appearance to a mere caricature.”
@CNJRunner
@SoniaPoulton
Excellent logic there, kiddo. Not using someone’s ‘preferred pronouns’ equivalent to not recognizing someone as a human being?
Try again.
@JeannaHoch
Excellent piece.
One small suggestion, if I may—let’s stop referring to wrong-sex hormones as HRT, which is a *therapy* that *replaces* hormones that were once present in abundance.
