π₯TODAY WE MARCHED ON LEADERS, our first in-person action!π₯ Leaders is a letting agency in Cambridge that have certainly led the way in one thing: neglecting safety issues to the point that our member was forced out of their home. So we showed up at their door.π

Rest up, take care of yourselves and your communities, and remember that no matter how many stories the Daily Mail writes about you, they can't take away your smile.

Alongside all of this, we somehow managed to create a whole new Students' Union! I've also worked harder than I thought possible to support students and fight for their rights during a global pandemic - keeping you updated with what I've been doing, running drop-ins and socials.

I've worked on supporting student sex workers, opposing the government's racist Prevent policy, and improving facilities for student parents. I coordinated student support for two rounds of UCU strikes, and our voter registration drive got hundreds of students registered to vote

And just like that it's all over! I can't believe that my year as Welfare and Rights Officer of @CUSUonline and the GU has come to an end - it's been an incredible year, full of ups and quite a few downs, but I am so proud of the work we've done to make this Uni a better place.

Another write-up from our event on Saturday - on Cambridge's universities and their links to the police and prisons
cpdsolidarity.wordpress.com
Among those who argue for reform rather than abolition of the police, itβs often suggested that police officers should be given more training, or should be required to take on degree-level study. Tβ¦

Just sent off an email using the template on here - it's super easy, and so important that we stand up against the government's dangerous threats to stifle trans rights in every way we can
We have it on good standing that we have until TOMORROW to urge the Prime Minister to not give the greenlight to damaging plans around trans equality and dignity - please write to him using our tool here

If you're a student parent at #CambridgeUniversity, make sure you've filled this in! I've been working on it with @theUL and @GraduateUnion and it would be great to hear your thoughts on how to improve libraries for those with kids!
π’ Calling all student parents! We've been working with the University Libraries on making their spaces more accessible for those with children. In order to decide what changes would be useful, we've helped them develop a short survey. Fill it in here:

Really important read !!
NEW RESEARCH π The UKβs universities are over-financialised, over-leveraged, and insecure employers. We need to transform them into centres for long-term research and learning, centred on collaboration and community. Our briefing out today π https://t.co/qwyTkwDwyQ

Again and again years of campaigning/"asking nicely" have been tried - how long do you expect us to sit looking at the statues, paintings and shrines honouring slave traders and eugenicists?! Sign the petition to get this one removed here:

During lockdown we really need to think about how different groups of students will need different support and ways of connecting and forming communities

Really excited for @cusu_president's Student Loneliness Forum this afternoon - he's done loads of work on this over the year, including finding out students' views in a survey that had over 1600 responses!
