Under the imminent legislation, New Zealand entities with income over $20 million p.a. must submit annual reports of the risk of labour abuse in their supply chains. A public register of the disclosure statements will be established, and a penalty regime implemented.

However, disclosure legislation is just one step in our efforts, and considerable work remains to tackle modern slavery in supply chains. The introduction of due diligence legislation is a crucial next step.

The New Zealand Government has today announced it is drafting modern slavery legislation. This is a significant milestone for New Zealand, which aligns us with other countries (e.g., Australia and the UK).

The danger is that modern slavery becomes the rule, not the exception. https://t.co/DaxWnhUurc
The US is seeing an unprecedented wave of migrant child labor right now. Thousands of kids are working overnight in dangerous factories for brands like Cheerios, Fruit of the Loom and Ford. They're here alone and they're being failed in the most basic way. https://t.co/5IlCNTjGdh

“INZ seem to take the view that [paying premiums] eliminates them as being a victim, as if the migrant worker has somehow contributed to their exploitation. In my view, the duress they are under to pay that money is in itself a form of exploitation.” https://t.co/zN2kAlECwe

A woman who gave secret video of an employer receiving $5000 must leave NZ, as Immigration says the payment shows she's not of 'good character'.

If companies aren’t tracing 100% of their cocoa, they cannot tackle social & environmental harms in their supply chains. For full traceability, we need: 💰 More ambition and funding from companies ⚖️ Stricter regulation from governments Learn more: https://t.co/T7SX6o1iz8
