For an efficient health system, remuneration systems must keep pace and not cement outdated inefficient structures.

It is not only in the pandemic that the flexibility of reimbursement systems to technological and medical progress or the needs of the population is a prerequisite for efficiency.

For policy-makers, it is worth taking a look at the types of remuneration. Some countries have continuously adapted their forms of remuneration to the changes in environmental conditions during the pandemic.

Beyond that, we have shown with our work the many possibilities there are to remunerate the medical service providers, in this case primary care physicians.

In general, the payments in #Switzerland have been adequate even after adjusting for price levels (and probably even high with the additional payments of various cantons not taken into account in the analysis).

About a year later, our paper appeared in Health Policy:.How to pay primary care physicians for SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations: An analysis of 43 EU and OECD countries.

To find out, my co-authors @RicciMilstein, Kosta Shatrov, Lea Schmutz and me looked at the payment scheme, the payment amount, any bundling and also pay-for-performance elements of COVID19 vaccinations in 43 countries.

Last year, the biggest Swiss tabloid newspaper, @Blickch ran the headline: "Covid vaccine tariff of 25 francs: I'm practically working for free!" For us, the question arose: Are GPs in Switzerland really so badly paid?

(3/10) In doing so, we sought to determine if there were meaningful differences in patterns of utilization, spending, and patient outcomes for high-need personas. These included elderly people hospitalized with a main diagnosis of (a) hip fracture and (b) chronic heart failure.
