A successful launch of AEROS can be monumental in proving the power of how small, more affordable spacecraft can achieve large scientific feats 💪🏽🛰️. The team was such a pleasure to work with! Rooting for a successful launch today 🚀.

AEROS also has a software defined radio (SDR) that will receive beacons from in-water buoys and tagged marine life (sharks/rays/whales). This allows us to determine what the environment is like (from the hyperspectral data) around where marine life is hanging out in the region 🦈.

It’s primary goal is detecting small changes in ocean color data that can indicate the health of in-water fauna, sediment flow into the water, harmful substances suspended at the surface, etc. The data is incredibly useful for environmental/ocean monitoring at large scales!.

I had the honor of supporting mission development through the @MITPortugal program, and the AEROS mission was a pillar of my dissertation! . This tiny but mighty 3U CubeSat will collect high-resolution, hyperspectral imagery along the Portuguese coast and in the nation’s EEZ.

Around 5PM (ET) today Portugal will launch their very first nanosatellite mission on SpaceX’s T10! This is Portugal’s second ever satellite with the previous launch happening 30 years ago 🛰️.

I’m 8 weeks out from my defense (panic intensifies). The mountain of things to wrap up is pretty overwhelming at this point, but I’ve found a little bit of comfort in my current daily mantra: it doesn’t all need to be done today, it just has to be worked on.
