The @SelfhelpNY Martin Lande Senior Residence gives hundreds of older adults the opportunity to live in Flushing in a community where they are welcome and supported. Thanks to $850K secured by @RepGraceMeng for much-needed repairs, it will continue to do so for years to come.

I stopped by the Queens Marathon Expo yesterday ahead of this weekend’s big event. This year’s race will support the college savings accounts of local students through @NYCKidsRISE. Good luck to all the runners tomorrow!

The NYS Health Department has declared the flu is now prevalent across the state. Getting a vaccine doesn’t just protect you, but vulnerable members of our community. Thanks to @nyphospital & Flushing Y for partnering with me to provide free flu shots yesterday.

If you are an SNAP/EBT recipient or a federal worker in need of food assistance, there will be an emergency food pantry today from 3 to 5 p.m. hosted by @AAFE1974 at 133-29 41st Avenue in Flushing. Bring your benefits card or federal worker ID and a bag or shopping cart.

It was wonderful to join so many community leaders - as well as Santa and Mr. & Mrs. Met - at Tangram’s annual tree-lighting ceremony. The atrium will look great for the toy giveaway later this month! You can still donate a toy for that event at my office until December 12.

A date has been set for Flushing to officially welcome the Year of the Horse! I joined Peter Tu, the Flushing Chinese Business Association, and community leaders this morning to share details of this year’s Lunar New Year Parade, which will take place on February 21 at 11AM.

It’s illegal to throw your old plants, leaves, and yard waste out with your regular garbage. You can pick up free lawn-and-leaf bags at my district office weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to help you compost it correctly.

The Flushing Library will close at 6PM today for Thanksgiving. All branches of @QPLNYC will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the holidays. They will open at their normal times on Saturday morning.

Due to ongoing water main work, residents and businesses on Linden Place between 31st Road & 32nd Avenue will experience a temporary shutdown of their water service tomorrow between 7AM-4:30PM. Plan accordingly.

Thanks to the community partners who made my annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway another success. With the support of FCBA, @hmartofficial, @delta Airlines, NY Apartment Association, @FlushingBID, Bronx Spreading Love, @CarpentersNYC & @Grubhub, we distributed nearly 500 turkeys!

A huge thanks to Gold City Supermarket on Kissena, the Committee of Asian, and a coalition of local Wenzhounese town associations for their generosity and partnership today as we handed out 200+ frozen chickens and a large variety of gifts to our neighbors to mark Thanksgiving!

I joined Helping Monkey for their Fall Commencement Ceremony. It was great to see firsthand the incredible work they do, from art classes and tutoring to cultural programs and family support. Congratulations to all the students, families and volunteers on a great season!

Thank you to the Chinese Christian Herald Crusade for inviting me to join their Thanksgiving celebration for new immigrant families. For many of these kids, this is one of their first introductions to this American tradition and the sense of community Thanksgiving represents.
