When you wear a mask you show you care. This is my favourite mask, and when I wear it I know I’m helping to protect my community from #COVID19AB . I encourage you to share your fun masks at #AlbertaCares and tell us who you’re protecting.

We’ve seen a significant drop in confirmed influenza cases. We expect a slow reduction at this time of year, but the drop over the last 2 weeks has been dramatic. This is a promising sign our measures are working, but we can’t lose sight of our #COVID19AB goal.

Whether #COVID19AB case numbers go up or down in the weeks ahead depends largely on what precautions we take over the next 10-14 days. The new cases we see today reflect behaviours 1-2 weeks ago. If we want to bring our numbers under control by early Aug. now is the time to act.

We’re all tired of #COVID19AB but the virus doesn’t care. We have to learn how to live with it. This means learning how to reduce risk while having a BBQ or visiting our cohort. It means we need to minimize the risk of contracting the virus & the risk of spreading it to others.

We are hearing reports of ppl trying to falsify proof of #COVID19AB vaccination records. We are at a critical time & need ABs to do all they can to help reduce strain on the health system. We need ppl to abide by current restrictions & not look for ways around the rules. (1/4)

This is an important reminder to all of us to stay home while sick. As many Albertans are doing today, I am continuing with all my duties from home. I will be updating Albertans today, as usual. Today’s update will take place at 4:30 pm. (3/3)

I have heard questions about whether we should let spread happen in young & healthy groups to increase our population’s immunity. We don’t know who will have a severe case of #COVID19AB – some who are young and healthy will have severe illness and even die. (1/2)

We cannot let up during this crucial time. If you experience any symptoms of #COVID19AB - self-isolate and complete an online self-assessment. If you don’t have online access, call 811. If you are directed to get tested, please do. Testing is incredibly important. (1/2)

There was snow on the ground when we identified Alberta’s first case of #COVID19AB in March. Now, summer is here and many people are excited to get outside. Let’s continue to protect one another by acting responsibly and following public health guidelines every day.

This weekend & the weeks ahead will be difficult for all of us who normally come together to celebrate the holidays. I know many of us wish to gather together to remember the way of the cross, to share a Seder meal or to break your fast after sundown during Iftar. (1/2)

We are currently investigating a significant #COVID19AB outbreak in Alberta involving P.1 variants of concern (the variant that originated in Brazil), linked to a returning traveller. (1/4)

This weekend, If you do meet people, meet outdoors if you can & maintain physical distance – walk the dog or go sledding, for example. By doing so, you are protecting yourself & others incl our dedicated healthcare workers who work around the clock to care for Albertans.

I would like to remind everyone that it’s important to maintain your physical and mental health. Please call your doctor & talk about any health concerns you may have. They can make sure you receive care safely and keep others safe as well.

Walking outdoors is a great way to stay active. Under current restrictions, outdoor physical activity, including walking and hiking, are permitted. Make sure that you stay two metres apart from anyone in another household.

I’ll be taking next week off to recharge & spend time with family. Updated #s will be posted on weekdays & if there are risks to the public, Deputy CMOH will ensure Albertans get the info they need. As I step away, I want to remind all of us that the future is in our hands. (8/8)

#COVID19AB has challenged us in ways that many never imagined. It’s reminded us of the depths of our strength & tested our limits. On #BellLetsTalk Day, remember, you are not alone. Reach out if you need help & check in with loved ones. Now, more than ever, every action counts.

If you live in an area w/enhanced measures, here’s 1 action you can take today. Limit in-person social visits w/friends, extended family & others outside your household. Do not have people who don’t live with you over for non-essential visits. Socialize via Skype or Zoom instead.

We don’t need to wait for new measures to come into effect to protect one another from #COVID19AB . If you have not been following the rules, or if you know your behaviour could be safer, now is the time to make changes. Now is the time to stay home & stay safe.
