(12) ANN DOHERTY became the first woman appointed as Chief Executive to Cork City Council in 2014. She served for 10 years, displaying innovation, a calm authority, honesty and humour.

(11) DEIRDRE FORDE is the latest woman to serve as Cork's Lord Mayor, elected in 2022. One of her priorities in office was to further female participation in politics through the Cork City Council Women's Caucus.

(10) MARY SHIELDS was elected Lord Mayor in 2014. She was committed to working to ensure less partisan politics in the Council Chamber.

(3) SUSANNE ROUVIERE DAY was a feminist, novelist and playwright. In 1914, she became the first woman to contest a Cork Corporation election. Alas, she missed out by five votes!
