San Jose man traveling north on Highway 9 attempted to enter a closed roadway for the

🚨 Due to a high tidal surge, numerous closures are in place today. Pls exercise extreme caution near the ocean and stay safe. Here are some views from the Rio Del Mar Esplanade and Seacliff St. Beach. Remember to respect the closures and avoid these areas for your own safety.
This new wave of storms is bringing new road closures and more hazards. At various locations in the county there are down wires, trees, flooded roadways, sinkholes, and slides. Please do not drive unless it’s NECESSARY. Be safe and cautious of your surroundings.
Traffic alert: Highway 17 just north of Summit Rd. Tree fell closing all lanes. Passerby’s stopped and cut up majority of the tree and now only S/B # 2 blocked.
Early this morning CHP officers responded to a vehicle that drove off the road into the Pacific Ocean from East Cliff Drive. The 50 year San Jose resident sustained major injuries as a result of the crash and was later arrested for DUI.
Please do not drink and drive.
Rio Del Mar Esplanade is currently flooded. Please avoid the area and do not attempt to drive across flooded areas. Road closures are in effect, so please do not drive around them. Drive with caution and prioritize safety.

This morning an officer in the southern part of the county spotted 3 vehicles traveling over 100 MPH on SR1. All three were cited. Upon conviction, the drivers will face fines, 2 points on their DMV record and a 1 month license suspension. If you must drive, please do so safely

Important reminder as we continue to see heavy rains. Do not drive through roadways that are flooded. You never know how deep the water may be. This driver was fortunate to escape on Brookwood Dr in Santa Cruz.
This Maserati was teetering on an embankment & in danger of impacting SR1 traffic. The driver was asleep, foot on the brake and car in drive. Officers were not able to wake him & had to break a window. After ensuring he was not having a medical emergency, he was arrested for DUI.
If you MUST leave your home during inclement weather: slow down, both hands on the steering wheel, turn on headlights, allow space between cars, and watch for down tree branches, trees, sinkholes, and power lines. Allow extra time in case of
detours away from flooded roadways.

Buddy and his handler spotted a Mazda 3 with window tint and no front license plate. Buddy could not let it go and barked his way to the traffic stop.
Buddy’s spider senses located and seized approximately 68 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested an East Bay resident.

Yesterday evening, CHP Santa Cruz Area, received calls of a wrong way driver on the Rio Del Mar Blvd. off-ramp from S/B SR-1. CHP officers located the wrong way driver. The driver was evaluated & arrested for DUI.
If you ever spot a wrong way driver, immediately call 911.
